The lady can be seen ‘flipping the bird’ or ‘pointing the middle finger’ at the taxi driver at the start of the video. The taxi driver keeps his cool and starts driving off. The lady, however, decides to take a cheap shot at the Vellfire and gives it a kick. Unable to control his temper any further, the taxi driver comes out of the car and proceeds to give her one tight slap. Fight! Fight! Fight! Well, if you can call that a fight. Cam car has recorded a taxi speeding up while trying to switch lanes. The taxi also drove along the road shoulder and performed brake checks on the cam car. Are all these really worth the hassle and risking your safety over? It seems more like pettiness and insane behaviour to me. The offence Driving along the road shoulder is a traffic offence by itself, and the taxi driver could be liable to a maximum of 6 demerit points and a $200 fine. Brake checking is also known as the act of sharply hitting the brakes while driving to make an unsuspecting driver behind slam on his brakes or swerve out of the way to avoid an accident. It's time for LTA and the TP to take this taxi driver down a peg. Posted less than two hours ago on Facebook, a fellow citizen spotted a Transcab driver driving a Renault Latitude outside Orchid Country Club. Situated along Yishun Avenue 1, the red cab noticed a queue for vehicles to turn out of the road. Not wanting to join the long line, the taxi crossed the double white lines (yikes!) and tried to exit the lane in the opposite direction. In all honesty, if the roads were clear, his plan would have worked. However, just at that moment, a blue cab and a silver van wanted to turn into the lane from the main road. This ends in an awkward face-off between both cabs as the red taxi driver refuses to back off. The citizen recording the video zoomed in, showing the driver of the red cab hanging out of the window of his vehicle, presumably yelling at the other cabby. As minutes passed, the Transcab driver stood his ground between both lanes. As if things could not get any worse, the driver of a silver car on the main road found himself situated awkwardly in the junction box as he could not make his right turn into the blocked lane. The video ends with the citizen zooming onto the red cab's license plate to identify the entitled and selfish driver. Netizens' reactions Understandably, most netizens were furious over the entitled taxi driver's behaviour. Besides committing the offence of crossing the double white lines, the driver intentionally blocked the flow of traffic due to his own selfishness. It's no wonder that people were tagging LTA, Transcab and the Traffic Police in their comments to highlight the issue to these authorities. I honestly salute the blue taxi driver for not engaging in any road rage with the red driver. I would also honk the taxi until he reversed and joined the queue. Why though? Why are they like this? One can never take road safety for granted. There is a purpose behind inculcating a sense of road safety in us from a young age. The accident occurred along Pasir Ris Drive 1, involving a taxi and a cyclist. A cyclist was cycling across a pedestrian crossing when a taxi performing a discretionary left turn started to accelerate as he approached the junction. Due to the lack of lights and reflectors and the dark coloured clothing donned by the cyclist, the cyclist's road presence was hardly noticeable. The taxi driver likely did not spot the cyclist while he was cycling across the pedestrian crossing. As a result, the taxi driver rammed into the cyclist rather forcefully, which sent him crashing headfirst onto the road. The Injury The cyclist injured his head, causing his forehead to bleed. If you don't like road cyclists, your blood confirm boil after this. According to SG Road Vigilante, these young cyclists caused a big hoo-hah in the middle of cross street road. From their body language, seems like they were buaysong (read: unhappy) with the Comfort Delgro Taxi. This took place on 14th January 8:21PM. While we don't know what happened, these cyclists had the audacity to gang up and trash it out on the roads. Some people really never die before, literally. 😑 Naturally, many Facebook users were enraged with the cyclists' behaviour: What's worse than YPs? YPs on bicycles picking fights on roads, obviously.

Three teenagers, aged between 16 and 17, were arrested on Sunday for their suspected involvement in a case of robbery from a taxi at Japanese Gardens Road. The police said in a statement that early on Sunday morning, the taxi driver, who was the victim, made a report that he had been assaulted and robbed of $5 cash. The identities and whereabouts of the suspects were established with the description provided by the victim. Officers from Clementi Police Division then managed to establish the whereabouts of the suspects and arrested all three within eight hours of the time the report was lodged. Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Melvin Yong advises victims of such crime to be calm and composed when confronted and to take note of the culprits' descriptions. Recently, a taxi driver passed away after he was involved in an accident with a Ferrari. In fact, other than the risk of getting into accidents, a taxi driver also faces other occupational risks such as robbery and aggressive customer. Not long ago, a taxi driver was thrown out of his cab after he got into a dispute with a passenger at Changi Airport. The above incidents prompted me to conduct some research over the internet and I hope to share these safety tips with all the taxi uncles and aunties out there on the road earning a living: 1.) Do not flash or display your money Do not wear any type of expensive watch, necklaces, or wrist bracelets. If you do, you are providing motivation for the person to rob you. If you must wear a necklace, make sure it is very thin so that it will break before it can strangle you. If your passenger offers you a large denomination note, advise him that you will take him to get it changed at a nearby store. Do not show him that you have money to change it. On this point, also never tell your customer that you had a good shift. 2.) Be alert and aware Keep yourself very alert and aware of what is going on around you at all times, whether you are parking or driving. This can be achieved by having sufficient rest, eat well, and getting enough exercise. The windows can be opened slightly to allow fresh air to come in, but not to the extent whereby someone can grab you from the outside. Use defensive driving tactics. 3.) Keep an eye on your passenger Keep some type of watch over your passengers while they are in your taxi. Maintain eye contact with them as they enter your vehicle. This is to send a signal to them that you can identify them in the event that they do harm to you. Do not let the passenger sit directly behind you if possible because it is your blind spot. Buy a convex rear view mirror that replaces or fits over the regular one. This will allow you 100% back seat visibility. It also sends a message to the customer that you can see them. 4) Know emergency procedures Each taxi company has in place a set of emergency procedure rules for use in different circumstances. These rules vary from company to company and you must make a sincere effort to learn them. They are not there for the company, but are for you and your personal safety. 5.) Always keep the doors locked This is very important especially if you are sitting in your cab waiting for the next customer. You do not want someone to come up beside you on foot without you noticing them and jerking open the door and attacking you. 6.) Do not be aggressive or argumentative This type of behavior may escalate a minor disagreement into a violent confrontation. Stay calm and controlled. 7.) Do not resist a robbery Just comply with the bad guy. If you resist, you may be injured or even worse, murdered. It is wiser to live to work another day. 8.) Be aware of passengers who give you "vague" instructions It is of utmost importance that you insist on your customer giving you a fixed destination as to where they are going, before you start driving away. Some customers may say, take me to "whatever" street or give an uncertain destination. If they are unsure and balk, read this as a sign that you should be very alert to what they are up to. If they tell you to "just start driving - we will tell you the way", this is a classic danger signal to you. Do not move and politely advise them that the "company's policy" requires you to get an exact address. Double check over the radio to confirm the address. This will send the passenger a signal that others know where you are going. 9.) Ensure that the radio is working The most important piece of equipment in your taxi is your radio, as it connects you to your dispatcher. The dispatcher is your lifeline. They are the ones who will get you help if you are in trouble. 10.) Carry a spare key It is a good idea to have a spare key for the taxi you drive and carry it in your pocket by itself. Should you be robbed, what will probably happen is that the robbers will rip out your radio mike so you cannot call for help, and may throw your keys away if they do not steal your taxi to make the getaway.
