BMW M5 caught speeding and beating a red light in Eunos

A BMW M5 was caught speeding recklessly and beating the red light along Still Road on Wednesday (June 9) night. The 39-second clip shows multiple views of the speeding vehicle from a camcar that was at the traffic junction. According to the Road Traffic Act, drivers caught speeding will be awarded demerit points and a composition fine. After watching the video, there is no doubt that the BMW had exceeded the speed limit. Drivers who are caught exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h would receive 12 to 24 demerit points, along with a mandatory prosecution in court. Additionally, beating the red light will incur a fine of up to $400 and another 12 demerit points. With the recent news of actor Gurmit Singh receiving an $800 fine for speeding, I had expected Singaporeans to be more mindful and to avoid speeding on empty roads. Netizens' reactions Honestly, the few minutes that you save on your trip is not worth the consequences that come along with it. Italian automaker unveils its V8-powered sports car

Late last year, Italian automaker Mazzanti previewed a two seater concept sports car which was known as the Evantra. At that time, the car was said to feature either a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre flat six engine which produces around 400bhp or the same unit but turbocharged which has around 600bhp. The car was targeted to be released in mid 2012. Recently, images of the production ready car were released. Its body looks pretty much like the concept but now it features a different engine. The flat six engine was replaced with a naturally aspirated 7.0-litre V8 engine which delivers 700bhp with a torque of 848Nm. The engine has a compression ration of 11:1, a dry sump lubrication system and valves as well as connecting rods made out of titanium. The V8 engine, which is the similar unit from the Chevrolet Corvette, is mated to a six speed sequential gearbox which enables the Evantra to complete the century sprint in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 350km/h. 20 inch OZ alloy wheels, which are wrapped in Continental tyres, are fitted on all four corners of the car. Braking power is courtesy of a Brembo braking system. The front is fitted with 380mm disc brakes with a six piston caliper and the rear is fitted with a 360mm disc with a four piston caliper. Carbon ceramic brakes come as an option. The in-house designed body is made out of lightweight steel but customers can opt for a body built from either carbon fibre or aluminium. The carbon fibre-bodied car weighs around 1,300 kilograms. Mazzanti will debut the Evantra at the Top Marques auto show in Monaco which will be held in April 2013. Sometimes in life, when you are looking for something or someone, you end up finding something else. That is quite natural as I strongly believe it has happened to many people at a point of their life. It happened to an American man who was searching for his birth mother and unexpectedly ended up with a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS that has been in the family for many years. Zach S from Virginia, United States; first saw the Camaro RS/SS in 2006 when he met his birth mother in Arizona after years of searching. During the meeting, both mother and son shared many stories and pictures. When Zach mentioned to his mother that he was into cars, his mother told him that his grandma's car was stored in the back yard under a tarpaulin. Under the canvas sheet was the 1967 Chevy Camaro RS that has been stored in the harsh conditions of the Arizona desert for more than twenty years. According to Zach, it was like a time capsule. The car was purchased new by Zach's grandmother from a dealer in Los Angeles. She ordered the car with the RS/SS package. It came with the RS package trimming and it was fitted with a 5.7-litre V8 engine that delivers around 295bhp. The car also came with a rare bench seat, automatic column shifters, power steering and hidden headlights. When Zach's mother passed away in 2008, he asked his brother whether if he could buy the vehicle but his brother was not willing to part with it at that moment. Two years later, Zach got a telephone call from his brother who said that he was ready to sell the Camaro to Zach. And so, Zach hired a company to ship the Camaro to his home in Virginia. Zach's grandmother have kept all forms of documentation of the car in a diary and he found out that the Camaro has never been titled outside of California. Zach has all the documents in the diary and it also included several other things such as a letter from the dealership's salesperson thanking her for buying the car and two speeding tickets from the same policeman in the same month. Zach intends to get the car fixed and drive it around for a few years before passing it down to his sister's children in order for the family's future generations to cherish and enjoy. Nissan announces engine for the Aussie V8 Supercars Series

In Singapore, finding an old classic car is something not that easy nor is it common due to the fact that our country is very small and there are not much of these cars left. But in big countries such as the United States, barn finds happen rather often and sometimes that find could be a gem. The vehicle you see in the pictures here is a 1961 C1 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster with 93423 miles (150,349 km) on the odometer and has been parked since 1968. The car was found by the guys at Barn Finds, a web based group who hunt for old vehicles and classic cars and publish them on their site for enthusiasts to snatch them up. Apparently, this particular C1 Corvette was found in Las Vegas and it has two owners since new. The current owner has parked the car for the last time in 1968 and it has not run since then. The Corvette has a 4.6-litre dual carburettor V8 engine that generates around 270bhp. The weather condition in Las Vegas has left the car in a terrible state. The car is also covered in huge amount of dust, both exterior and interior of it. Right now, it is on sale on eBay Motors and it is being sold with a hard top, without the convertible top and also without any of the convertible top

What qualifies as a muscle car and the beginning of it

Many of us know what a muscle car is. But do we really know the factors that place a certain car in the muscle car category? Initially I thought that I knew so much about muscle cars but after reading a certain book about these cars, I became more knowledgeable and some of the so called facts that I previously thought were true are actually not. And now I would like to share them with you. 1965 Pontiac GTO convertible There are many varying opinions on what qualifies as a muscle car but before I touch on that let us see what does not qualify as a muscle car. First of all, it is not a piece of Italian exotic, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc, nor it is a German performance car (Porsche, etc.). Even a British make sports car would not fit the bill (although there were muscle cars from other countries later on). All the abovementioned cars are too complex, specialised or efficient. Sports cars are not really considered as a muscle car. So, what really qualifies as a muscle car? It is essentially a North American phenomenon; in other words, in the beginning, it should be American made. The basic concept of a muscle car is taking a mid-sized American 2-door car and put in a large displacement V8 engine. The car itself should not be complex, upmarket or fancy. And usually, it should have a rear seating arrangement. 1966 Dodge Charger The muscle car concept is as simple as that. Furthermore in the beginning, the people who are interested in muscle cars are usually young and men. They are not interested in technical sophistication, excellent handling and even top speed. 1970 Dodge Challenger To the American youth of that time who were raised on drag racing, traffic lights street racing and hot-rodding, the most important factors to them were the size of the engine, horsepower and acceleration. In other words, all that they care about is straight line speed. 1958 Ford Thunderbird And when the big 3 American car manufacturers realised about this increasing trend among the youth, the companies started a power race to offer big engine displacements, huge horsepower and lesser seconds over the standing quarter. 1957 Chrysler 300C Before the era of muscle cars, the usage of V8 engines was already pretty rife during the 1950s. Companies like Ford and Chrysler all had their cars fitted with their V8 engines, for example the Ford Thunderbird and Chrysler 300. Their size were too big to place them in the muscle car category. Anyway, at that time the term muscle car has not been known or created. 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Although at that time these cars were not considered as muscle cars but they had one thing in common; they were built for powerful performance and this is one of the factors that the American youth of that time desired for a mid-sized, lighter-shelled car with big, powerful engines. 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Conventionally, many would say or argue that the 1965 Pontiac GTO (top most picture) was the first true muscle car. 2-door mid-sized American car, huge V8 engine and it sits four people; all fits into the muscle car category. It also began a new car class that offered an affordable and stunning performance package. 1964 Ford Mustang The plan and idea for the GTO nearly did not happen. It came about when in 1963, General Motors would not produce overtly sporty cars and Pontiac was restricted with a standard 300 cu inch (4.8 litre) engine for their intermediate sized cars. And this upset some of their managers and engineers as Pontiac has always been a performance car marque and these same people are also fans of fast cars. 1968 Ford Torino GT FastBack These same people (one of them was John DeLorean who founded the DeLorean company) also felt that the only way to sell cars was by producing image-building cars and eventually the GTO plan went ahead. Before I continue, let me add that GM made all sorts of parts (engine, chassis, etc.) for NASCAR racing and they were road legal at that time. These parts were, at times, used for their production models. Pontiac fitted a 6.375 litre V8 engine together with a mix-and-match of existing parts and assembled them on the production line. This resulted in the GTO, made for truly affordable performance and the GTO fits into the muscle car concept, huge V8 engine in a smaller-sized car and it also started the trend. Other automakers soon followed with their own versions of this new car trend. Ford had its Mustang and Torino models, Dodge came out with the Charger and Challenger and Chevy had its Camaro and Chevelle models. Some people would argue that some of the models I mentioned above are in the pony car category but some of the pony car models are qualified to be in the muscle car category due to the dealer options available for those pony cars (huge V8 engines, etc.). As long as it fits the muscle car bill, many would regard it as one. 1968 Holden Monaro Earlier on I did mention about muscle cars manufactured outside of America. Cars like the Australian Ford Falcon and Holden Monaro fits the muscle category. But sadly, some muscle car purists do not consider these cars to be a muscle car due to them not being American made. 1972 Ford Falcon XA GT After the decline of the muscle car era during the 1970s (due to the oil crisis) there have been a resurgence in the muscle car category. Models like the Mustang, Charger and Camaro still remains till today and as long as the demand is there, we will get to see more of these cars. New Mercedes SL-Class comes with new innovative technologies

Just days after brochure images of the new Mercedes SL were leaked onto the internet; Mercedes Benz has finally unveiled their latest SL-Class model officially. Just like its predecessors, the new SL continues to offer S-Class luxuries and innovations in a sleek, open-top package. With a body made out of 89% aluminium, the new car weighs 136kg less than its predecessor. This will give the car a better dynamic driving feel and better fuel consumption. It comes with an all new V8 engine and several new features which I will talk about later in the article. The exterior styling has definitely changed a lot compared to the previous model. Sometime this year, there were rumours that Mercedes-Benz was seriously considering a two-door performance model as a possible rival to Porsche's 911 and they might also revive the SLC model (codename R190) name and use it for this particular application. Now it seems that the automaker has been given the green light to produce it which is slated for production by 2015. Not many details were revealed about the new SLC except for its powertrain. Initially rumoured to use one of AMG tuned engines, the front-engined SLC will feature an all-new 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 engine instead. The new engine is part of Mercedes' future generation engines. These new engines will have a 500 cubic centimetres per cylinder displacement. This means that Mercedes-Benz could either use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre V6 or a 4.0-litre V8 engine in their future cars. Expected horsepower will be lower than the SLS AMG. Not known to us is what badge will the SLC use as nowadays Mercedes car labels have long lost the bearings of the actual capacity under the bonnet. (For example, the new E250 has a 1.8-litre engine) The new SLC will also be smaller in size compared to the SLS AMG. It will first be offered as a coupe and a roadster version will be offered if demands are high enough. The car will utilise Mercedes' current 7-speed dual clutch transmission and expect much light weight parts, such as aluminium, to be utilised interiorly. The original SLC life span didn't last long compared to other Mercedes Benz's models and a revival will increase the automaker's model line-up and place them in fierce contention with rival German manufacturers like Audi and BMW. The success of the Mercedes-Benz SLS, which has sold 5,000 units since its release and grown to include a Roadster version and has paved way for the automaker to release another AMG version. It will be a smaller, cheaper version of the SLS, poised to rival the Porsche 911. According to Christoph Jung, development director of performance division AMG, "There is room for an AMG model below the SLS, targeting the Porsche 911. This is the next market for AMG, and we are considering what is the right package." "It is important to work on our brand and grow it. Look at the Porsche 911 - it is a huge success. They have done a very good job in evolving it over the years. Now, thanks to the SLS, companies like Porsche see AMG as competition. Everyone recognises that AMG can produce super sports cars." The car will be a two-seater and comes with a front-mounted V8 engine, most likely a development of the company's latest 5.5-litre twin-turbo. This engine would produce up to 500bhp, driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox. Expect zero to 100km/h in four seconds and a top speed of 297km/h. The model will also showcase some highly efficient features such as stop-start technology. The new SLS model would have to start at around 80,000 Euros in order to be profitable. Before clicking to read further, would you like to make a guess what this piece of crumpled metal lump used to be? Aside from the alloy wheels, it's hard to imagine by looking at these pictures that the heap of crumpled metal was once a Ferrari 458 Italia. Little is known about the incident other than it reportedly took place somewhere in France after the supercar's V8 engine caught on fire. If true, it is not the first time that this has happened as another 458 Italia went up in flames earlier this month in France. Perhaps insurance companies may start revising the premium for insuring these supercars!
