VW Polo

Went to test drive the Polo today and I simply love it as a small car. I have always been a conti car fan and Polo has again not disappoint me with the steering and built.

However, the price is about $5000 more than a Toyota Yaris and it does not even come with any alloy wheels. The polo sits on a pathetic 14" steel wheel !

The SE keeps claiming that he cannot throw in any freebies or lower that price due to company policy. I wonder does anyone here know of this practice in Car & Cars or have any Kang Tow?

I wanted very much for my wife to get this car instead of the Yaris but it seems that the Yaris is going to win this competition because of the price.

Well, VW Polo is generally not a bad car. Solid built quality compares with the Yaris. Although the Yaris is cute, not sure the novelty will last. Not forgetting that the Yaris is Thai made. Nothing against the Thais, but Japanese work on stricter QC. One major point to note, CnC's technical service department is horrible. Their service hierarchy have no proper training to work with VW cars. How I know? My close friend used to work there, and most importantly, my ride is serviced there. And you know what, my very first service done there(after running in), they didn't top sufficient oil for me! Think twice before committing on a VW when CnC is still the current agent.

My wife needs a small car without a backside. If she can accept a sedan, I would have gladly let her have my C-class.

VW is a great car maker landed in wrong hands in Singapore. Damn pathetic C&C. Our touareg got the "exhaust system" warning light on. Brought for servicing and told the mechanic about it. During collection of car, mechanic said there was no exhaust problemand he had turned the exhaust system warning light off. True enough, the warning light went off, however, it was back on the next day. Now, have to bring it back to them and I need to tell the mechanic that i suspect theres a problem with the oxygen sensor. Will tell him to do a check on it, but, now it seems to me that they have mild knowledge on VWs and he will not even know what an oxygen sensor is. I might sound very mean, but they really need to do more reading up and homework. [furious]

The 14" will have to go, so you could consider it out the the equation for the competition with the Yaris. Get the Polo and slowly mod for your wifey lor... [nod]

The OMV of the local Fabias are assessed in 2003. Back then EUR was stronger to SGD. So it gives a hint how old the 'new' pre-facelift Fabias are.
