You need to pay $998 for the first 12 months because PM will subsidise for those months. After that you'll be paying $1314 for the rest of the loan, that means the remaining 9 years. The sums work out to be $153888!

It will definitely attract quite some buyers, those who favour a full loan. Previously if you take a full loan at prevailing int rates for cars, u would be paying something like $1350 to $1450 per month depending whats the car loan rate u secured and whats the final car price[negotiable depending on SE].

So if one pays less in first 12 months, it will attract some especially first time buyers, unless there is some other catch I am not aware off.

Just like housing loan.

First year at low interest rate...subsequent years at higher rate to cover back the first year.

For that kinda money, I'd get the Lexus IS250 anytime.

BHP: IS250 >> 320i

Torque: IS250 >> 320i

Reliability: IS250 >>>>> 320i

Engine: IS250 V6 24v [thumbsup] > 320i IL4 16v

F. Suspension: IS250 double wishbones [thumbsup] > 320i struts

Country Mfgr: IS250 Japan [thumbsup] > 320i Africa

Gear Paddles: IS250 Yes > 320i None

The BMW 3 series is indeed a pricey car, many people even think its over priced here in SG. LEXUS knows that, its their marketing strategy to offer more 'ingredients' for similar pricing and also to make a bigger capacity engine entry-level model vs BMW, or AUDI and MERC for that matter which starts at 2 litres, and merc at 1.8litres for the C180 Kompressor. It is a right move by LEXUS to me, to tackle more established marques. The equivalent capacity of IS250 for the BMW, which is the BMW325i, actually packs more power at 2.5litres but offer fewer standard accesories in the car vs the LEXUS. And of cos the the 325i[not many on the road, most are 320i] is a lot more costly than the IS250, think its about $30k to 40k higher.

Some people will just buy into that idea. One of my friend 'fell' into the ballon-scheme offered by PM many years ago and was 'burned'.

ah har, i was trying to recall scheme... u helped me remember.

BTW, how exactly does it work?

Audi did the same thing with their A4 some time back - dunno some "$800" monthly crap promo...wah after that so many A4 on the road. [laugh]

Such promotions are really to sucker people who look at monthly payments to decide whether they can afford a car, not total cost. [thumbsdown]
