Hi

Recently, the cranking actions sounds weak and it is a sign that the 3 year old car battery is getting weak. I know that the current Octavia is taking a 55Ah battery, you guys have any reasonable place to recommend to replace the battery and the brand to replace?

U can get the "Maintenance Free" (MF) type if u don't like to DIY your car stuff.

Amaron is very popular.

Many places have it. Do a search here & read up. There were so many discussions about it.

I usually replace with a higher capacity battery cos it lasts longer & has more reserve power.

Another good brand is Varta. Also MF. They got an "Asian something version". Highly recommended by some of the bros here.

I can't remember the model but u can search here in MCF. There were several discussions on Amaron & Varta. Prices & where is best to buy was also mentioned. [thumbsup]

If u want, I can refer u to my battery/tyre shop. He is very experienced & i've been using him for many years now. [thumbsup]

I found Varta very pretty useable for our generation of VAG's....can get it at Eng Wah Tyre and Battery - Blk 5 Toa Payoh Industrial Park #01-1273. Mine came with 1 year warranty and free towing service up to 50km north of the M'sia-Thai border but not sure if they still offer that today. Will find out when I change my battery again. [:)]

Just got mine changed recently... was quoted Varta 60Ah at Leong Seng for $145 ... thought I could get a better price at Servo since I'm a regular there ... erm... but I ended up paying more ('cos I was too lazy to drive back to Leong Seng)

I was actually looking for Aurora, my previous batt (55AH) which lasted for 2.5 yrs (and was still working but had it changed since it was already 2.5yrs [sweatdrop] )

Yes... it was MF ... I forgot all about it until my friend's car broke down due to batt and I realised mine was already 2.5yrs old [laugh]

Went to change the batt after that [:p]

Initially, I thought of getting Varta which is around $140 for 50AH. In the end, I got a Motolite MF 55AH for $70 with one year warranty.

I figured if a cheap one at $70 can last 2yrs, it would worth paying over a Varta which cost twice the price, but can a Varta last 4yrs?

Went down to Autobac to check and they confirm the battery is due for replacement. The problem is that they do not have the right kind of battery. There are 2 considerations, overall size due to the limitation of the battery holder, and the top moulding on +/-terminals, it has to be depressed so that the connection can be aligned. I asked the technician for the actual brand and specs but he cannot tell me.

Apparently, only Varta is the closest fit. Can anyone confirm the actual brand and size that can be used?

Ok, finally got the battery replaced. it is a Varta Blue Dynamic 62Ah which fit nicely into the battery compartment and done in a shop along Lavender Street.
