Think you confuse between anti lag and launch control system...

Antilag is more for when the car is moving. When you change gear, your revs drops when you upshift, with a anti lag system, fuel is exploded to send exhaust gases to the turbine and keep it spinning instead of slowing down so when your next gear is engaged, you can just floor it and the turbo will spool without losses in the manifold pressure.

In simple terms, you will not lost the pressure when you change gear and hence your turbo will get into its powerband faster.

For launching, the launch control is used. This little gadget will help to hold your revs in the best range for take off...too much revs and you risk wheelspinning, too little, your engine will get bog down when you release the clutch. Hit the sweet spot, you let go of the clutch and your car will screech forward without wasting time wheelspinning.

Real life got use or not ? Well...can you afford to be late by 30 secs ? If the answer is yes...then no, it does not offer any advantage during your daily drives.
