Contax 1st Gear March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../337278/1/.html "SINGAPORE: The search for alleged JI leader of Singapore Mas Selamat Kastari will now become more targeted - based on specific intelligence on where he might be hiding. Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng on Wednesday said information showed the wanted man is still in Singapore. He gave this update on the manhunt efforts after meeting some 80 Gurkha soldiers involved in the search....." Honestly , after almost a month hidding in the forest ; this MSK must be either very well train in jungle survivor skills or his body already decompose somewhere in the reservoirs.... ↡ Advertisement

Karu 6th Gear March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 That's their way of saying they're giving up hope of finding him in S'pore...
Chengtl Neutral Newbie March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 I believe that he's no longer in the forest anymore. Given S'pore's tropical weather, I dun believe he can survive that long - that's assuming he has indeed escaped in the first place. He's either hiding in his accomplice's nest or already out of the country. This should served as a harsh lesson for the security people - MM Lee is right, they have become too complacent. But something still mystifies me - how did he escape from such a secured compound in the first place? So unless there is some lapse in the structural security, this obviously smells like an inside job to me. Well, of cos this is one conspiracy theory but until we hear the investigation results, we can only speculate.
Silver_blade Turbocharged March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 I read this as a prelude to the end of the search for MSK. The massive search operation cannot go on forever...it has to end some where. That's probably what they mean by 'The search for alleged JI leader of Singapore Mas Selamat Kastari will now become more targeted - based on specific intelligence on where he might be hiding'. W2wwong Neutral Newbie March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 s'pore still got place to search meh? for all you know, he's probably still hiding in the false ceiling of the toilet.
W2wwong Neutral Newbie March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 seen on the internet : O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? Disappeared from WDC When he went for a pee, O where, O where can he be?" O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? He ain't no pimp, He walks (oops), runs with a limp, O where, O where can he be? O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? Bolted at about 4, "This was what he wore." O where, O where can he be? O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? You heard the boasting "We have high-tech mapping" ... but O where, O where can he be? O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? "What Mas(sive) search for you!" Since he left no clue. O where, O where can he be? O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? "Just wait for C.O.I. Report will answer why" O where, O where can he be? O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? But C.O.I's somewhat lame. When there's no independent name? O where, O where can he be? O where, O where has Mas Selamat gone, O where, O where has he been? They said he had escaped. But might he not been dead? O where, O where can he be? Sosaria Turbocharged March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 Yes, you're right . It's double-speak to mean that they will be ending the mass searches, etc. The situation at the causeway now is piling on the pressure to end what has been, in the past few weeks, a pointless exercise. But it was useful in the sense that quite a large number of illegal immigrants were flushed out . An escaped fugitive like this case would have left the country within the first few hours (should it be 4 hours?), or hiding with somebody, in which case, 'targeted searches' and 'specific intelligence' would make more sense. Lv3338 Clutched March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 a limping guy just go disappeared in the air .... Seems not so simple as that .......
Kingcopa 1st Gear March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 Did he really escape or is he This most likely signal that they will stop looking for him. The more this saga drag on, the more stupid they seem.
Juzzme 3rd Gear March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 If it is an inside job, the 'insider' would have also made arrangements for him to leave S'pore. I'm sure Mas wouldn't be so dumb as to plan only his escape from the detention centre and not thought abt how to avoid getting caught again.
Sosaria Turbocharged March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 I believe that he's no longer in the forest anymore. Given S'pore's tropical weather, I dun believe he can survive that long... Well, second world war-era japanese soldiers managed to survive for very long after the war, until the 70s and 80s, in the jungles of the phillipines and some pacific islands... But of course, their jungles are bigger. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroo_Onoda
Sg8916 Neutral Newbie March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 I think what he meant by "will now become more targeted based on specific intelligence" means they will now wrap up the search party.. only activate a search if they THINK there is some credible tip-off. This is probably how it ends in official words if the expected result doesn't return.
Leepee 1st Gear March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 (edited) On the posters reads "Anyone who renders assistance to him is committing a grave offence" Using my PSLE england standard; The initial understanding in my mind is if I render assitance in getting him apprehended is considered a grave offence? One does not have to give him assistant directly to commit an offence. One can also be considered as giving assistance to him to his arrest by calling the police to report his whereabout! This considered offence or not hur? For argument sake; There is not clear mentioning of what type of assistance to him is an offence. One can argue that it is implied that the posters meant assistance to him, means to prevent him from getting recaptured or assit him in running away....BUT BUT BUT....wordings can means so many things to lawyers/courts who so wished to pin anyone till bankrupt. To me, this poster is a bad one as it shows that the Singapore authorities likes use imposing and big-brother words and laws to punish and warn the citizens. If the statement was "Rewards will be given for informations to his recapture" instead, he might have being caught immediately. W2wwong Neutral Newbie March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 if you render assistance to HIM, then it is considered an offence. if you are giving assistance that leads to his arrest, you are not assisting HIM, but assisting the police. so of course, it's not an offence. how many different ways of assisting him can there be? Silver_blade Turbocharged March 26, 2008 Share March 26, 2008 ...Singapore authorities likes use imposing and big-brother words and laws to punish and warn the citizens.... I so agree with you. If the made a mistake and needed help from the public...they jolly well be polite about it. Can you image reading a 'Lost Dog' notice in a similar 'tone'....will you return it even if you see it? Contax 1st Gear March 26, 2008 Author Share March 26, 2008 That's their way of saying they're giving up hope of finding him in S'pore... come to think of it , if he really is still in spore , our armed forces must really employ him or learn fom him the jungle survivor skill . It seems that our brunei jungle training isn't really effective afterall..... ↡ Advertisement
