My car steering wheel will vibrate strongly when i apply brake at high speed (eg. 90km/h or higher). I have just recently(about 1 mth ago) send my 2 year old car for servicing, change new tires, change front brake pads and did a wheel alignment. Prior to this, i have no such problem. Any kind soul can tell me what is the likely cause of the problem?

wat brakepads u changed? rotors most likely warp. change rotors or skim them, and do a high speed on-wheel balancing at stamford.

brakes vibrate at high speed should be quite common but not at 90km/h. Drove a nissan sunny 2004 model. i only feel the vibrate if i brake from 120km/h and above and is quite an sudden brake than i can feel it.

Suggest check brake pads condition - properly seated and secured.

recent wheel align might be contributing if the adjustment is too much toe-in.

Where did you do your Wheel align?

Try cleaning up the brake pad, to get more contact surfaces. If this did not solve the problem, go for a side slip test. If the wheels does slip , try to get a better reading as close as -+0m/km.

Other possiblities is loose wheel bearings and balljoints

Car : Toyota Wish

Mileage : 69000km

1mth ago, just change new tires, bad pad, wheel alignment(given to me free) at stamford tyres.

New brake pad is toyota brand one.

I just send to Stamdford tyres and the mechanic told me to go skim the disc/rotor too. But they say they don't have the machine and ask me to go other workshop. Mechanic ask me go Sin Ming area workhop and find myself wor.

Any kind souls can recommend me the workshop? I hope to go skim now on a Sat afternoon, still open? roughly what price is the skimming?

you can try workshop around tampines. (behind safra)

To skim the rotor can only last you for awhile. i suggust you replace a new set.

if you still want to keep your ride for awhile i recommend you to change new. I used to ride a wish. at 39k milliage i already kenna this problem. My friend less 10k and got warranty replacement.

heard that this a common fault on wish. for skimming i heard is less then 100. replace new check the price last time was abt 250-300.cheers.

Dear pal, txs for all your advise, i have got the rotor/disc skim yesterday at Kian Teong. Cost me $70 and whole process took less than 1 hr. Steering wheel no more vibrate liao. [:)]

According to the person at Kian Teong, 2 possibility that could cause the Disc 'wrap'

1) As i have recently change brake pads, the new pads may not 'sit in well' onto disc as the disc may have acustom to the old pads. Thus, it's advisable to skim disc whenever you change pads.

2) Never never wash the wheel when the disc is in hot condition. When water quickly cold down the disc, the contraction on the disc may cause wrap. Thus, allow the car to cool down before washing wheel. If you alway send car to wash at petrol kiosk, advisable to allow car to cool down before sending it for a wash.
