I think for me, I'd still go for a Japan (JDM) Wish, in spite of it being PI. There are so many on SG roads already, so after sales spare parts will not be an issue.

A Tomyam Wish? ..... eerrr I beg to differ, but no thanks.

If the place of made reflect on its selling price, then I would think its fair.....tongue.gif Seen a few MIJ cars also having minor issues here and there....unsure.gif

Guess these days really cannot expect too much from mass production stuff....laugh.gif

Neutral Newbie

that's what I read too in TNP today...BM is selling MIT wish...

I read in 'BM to bring in Wish?' thread - some members who had booked the BM Wish mentioned that the SE said it's JDM Wish....wonder if anyone change mind can get deposit refund or not...

"AUTHORISED DEALER TO SELL TOYOTA WISH. PARALLEL IMPORTERS SAY: POPULAR, BUT 'OLD MODEL'"

Somewhere in the fourth paragraph of the article:

Borneo Motors is unable to release figures on the number of orders it has already received for the car, which is imported from Thailand and retails at $77,983 with Certificate of Entitlement, or COE.

Then somewhere in the middle of the article:

But Mr. Hans Tan, the director of Carmax, a company that handles parallel mports, is not threatened. His company sells Wish for $73,000 with COE, with a waiting time of 2.5 months.

And toward the end paragraphs of the article:

Drivers such as Mr. Samuel Sum, 37, who booked the Toyota Wish two weeks ago with a parallel importer for $70,500 .....

If BM brings in the 2.0L Wish, it will then have to sell it for more than $80K!!! (judging from its selling price for the 1.8L).

But who knows, the initial batch from BM may be still JDM, until the Thai plant is ready to rollout the 2.0L.

(Perhaps that is why BM is taking soooo long to negotiate with Toyota Japan).

By the time the 2.0L is ready, BM will probably advertise as an upgraded model with a larger engine, but at the same price - in their attempt to kill off the PIs' JDM 1.8L models.

..... but I don't think so. It won't be that easy.

The stigma of a Made in Thailand car may still prevent a good number of Singaporeans from buying Toyotas of late.

Yucks! Made in Thailand [shakehead] ... at an even higher price than JDM Wish?!!!

I was contemplating on an OPC Wish but had decided to hold on purchasing from PIs, since I got wind that BM is going to bring the "same" model in.

AFAIAC, the decision is very clear for me now.

I'd go straight to the PIs to get my JDM Wish.

Others may say what they like about global branding / similar QC standards, yaddah, yaddah .....

But for me, there is no two-ways about it, with regards to the country-of-manufacture of the car (or for that matter, anything else) that I am buying.

Why so narrow minded? I would rather buy Thai made with 5 year waaranty by strong AD than 3 year (60k km) warranty from a PI who operates from a shophouse.

Nowadays Thai quality has improved alot as they gain experience and Japanese made JDM cars are using more and more third world country made parts.

Go see the Youtube review of the US / JDM Camry, gaps everywhere and poor fitting, no such thing on the Thai BM Camry.

Open your mind dude.

As I have said in my post ... All this yaddah, yaddah about Thai-made quality and QC blah.

Won't work.

That's not even a point of contention, or debate, for me.

The Japan-made Wish is the only way to go.

Agree - me too.

Neither will I even think about buying a Tomyam Camry/Altis/Vios, or Tomyam Accord/City.

For the same money, we will always have options and the ability to exercise it.

After all, its our money [gossip][laugh]

Aiya, after sales service is the most important, whether Thai or Japan made also will breakdown. Well good luck with that, your choice is personal, but PI iffy warranty and service plus Singapore's weak consumer laws would make any PI purchase too shaky and weak for me.
