to me, $75k sounds alright including transfer fees.

that is considering the condition is at least 9/10 in the color you like.

Hi guys,

I am eyeing a 2nd hand Golf GTI with the below details

Reg: Aug 2005

COE: $15,889

OMV: $31,778

Price: $70,000

I calculated the scrap value to be

(75% * (110% * OMV)) + (remaining COE)

(0.75 * (1.1 * $31,778)) + (0.6 * $15,889)

= $35,750

1) Is my above calculation correct?

2) if so, that means the dealer is charging a $35k body price! That seems alot to me..

Would appreciate any feedback or opinions!

thanks!

Not sure abt the calculation.

Based on my understand, those dealer will normally compare it with the current new car price, for certain ranges of car which has a very small market, they will want to buy the car as close to the paper value as possible so as to minmise on the loss in the event the car cannot be sold.

But when they sell, they will be doing reference to the yearly depreciation as compare to the new car.

hi, appreciate any help here! [wave]

Bro for car like the GOLF GTI, U are buying it at resale price, esp at end 2005.

Thus body value does not come into consideration unless u preparing to export it.

If every car were to sell at paper value plus a few thousand body value, noone will buy new cars anymore. All will turn to used car.

Actually not just cars like golf gti are like that, all cars in spore are like tt.

Resale price and export price are 2 different matters.

Dealers use this 'paper+body' as a gimmick to buy cars at a very low price.

Thus, u should actually calculate depreciation per annum instead to get a reasonable value.

U want to go all the way out, u can set up a tent outside VW or BMW at leng kee,

When some rich playboy comes and trade in his GTI for a upgrade and he is offered paper plus body for his car, u can step in and say u are a dealer

offer him paper plus body plus a few more k.

He shiok u shiok haha
