Crossangel Neutral Newbie July 20, 2008 Share July 20, 2008 hi there, my answer is no unless you have to money for maintenance. it's not really worth the money to me. yea, petrol consumption not heavy but a $90000 plus think it's better if you buy a normal sedan car cost around $65000 and the remanding cash of $25000 can be use on petrol. Just my thinking...

Familymanz 3rd Gear July 20, 2008 Share July 20, 2008 Going Green?? I drive the Prius during my occasional business trips to Japan (Prius is the company car) Fuel consumption is ~20km/l based on almost 100% city driving.
Beavc Clutched July 20, 2008 Share July 20, 2008 Honestly not a bad idea. But i think there isn't any battery problems yet as the current model is rather new. I suggest you google and see if cars in countries like US or UK has any issues. Plus check with Borneo motors on the warranty details, whether they cover the battery and the charging stuff...that would give u a better gauage on what you are up against when the car ages... Carbon82 Moderator July 21, 2008 Share July 21, 2008 Not trying to discourage you from getting one, but with that kind of price tag ($90K or more) and bearing in mind the lower PARF value (due to 40% green rebate), you have a lot of choice in the market, unless you are a "die hard" environmentalist, that will do anything just to go green.

Beavc Clutched July 21, 2008 Share July 21, 2008 Generally because of the price of the car that causes the difference in opinion. there are several ways to look at it.. a. Price - so expensive, if i buy a cheaper car the money i save on petrol would it cover the difference? b. Fuel cost and environmental impact - don't need to worry about petrol fluctuation...fingers cross may be got more tax breaks... See whichever is important to you lor... inlinesix Supersonic July 21, 2008 Share July 21, 2008 DON'T BUY unless u r greenie. Forget about FC unless u drive > 80% in city & under 50 km/h. In city, u could switch 2 EV mode where it is solely operate on electric motor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Prius
Vicz Neutral Newbie July 21, 2008 Share July 21, 2008 buy civic hybrid makes more sense. 1.3 litre tax - reasonable, $70k - reasonable, green - reasonable... not extremely fanastic but reasonable. compared to prius.... its overall more reasonable bcos of the price tag. Wishcumstrue 6th Gear July 22, 2008 Share July 22, 2008 (edited) Current Prius is 2004 model. Expected replacement in 2009, but double will be on lithium ion bat. Yes, I find the current 40% rebate is ridiculously low for any effective greening of local motoring scene. More like lip-service by the government than all-out effort to reduce oil-reliance and reduce CO2 emission. Long term wise, say by 2012, HEV (hybrid-electric-vehicle) is the way to go for Singapore's condition. I'd wait for the 2009 model as the price is expected to be lowered plus there will be growing range of hyridized model in the coming months. TM's Roadster is a high-performance fully electric sports car, different breed, very expensive and very unreliable. But wat's the point in building it when its not selling well in the mass market and company losing $$$? Nevetheless, I have respect for the founders from the environmental persceptive. Gigacrusher Neutral Newbie July 22, 2008 Share July 22, 2008 ......besides, with the current state of re-chargeable battery technology, one would have to overhaul all the batteries after 5 years and would have obliviate any meaningful petrol savings over 5 year period.....so the bros here are RIGHT that one would only buy if he/she is a die-hard tree-hugger! inlinesix Supersonic July 22, 2008 Share July 22, 2008 I will try not 2. I juz 1 2 emphasize a point here. In opinion, hybrid is juz a bridging technology. I read somewhere diesel hybrid is in works now. Wif Euro V diesel & hybrid, it will b even better than Prius.
inlinesix Supersonic July 22, 2008 Share July 22, 2008 Why do u buy ur present ka? Don't change 2 prius juz 2 face petrol & regret it later. I m driving a performance petrol guzzler now.
