Tas0577 1st Gear August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 Guys, Check with you that I get this sourish smell when you first turn on the air-con early in the morning but when the compressor kicks in, the smell is gone. I have read in this forum that you need to clean the air-con system by using those gas can type of cleaner, does that really help? After cleaning, you need to turn off air-con and open ventilation vent to let outside air come in when you reach your carpark 1-2 minutes before, is that true? ↡ Advertisement

Yoongf 4th Gear August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 Actualy, I found that it could be related to the cabin filter. When I detect smell, I wld take out the cabin air filter and wash the filter. The smell will be gone. Cabin filter normally located behind the glove compartment. This is assuming that the cooling coil is not choked up in the first place. Fcw75 Hypersonic August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 Most probably the sourish smell came from your aircon filter. Have you change it?
Mzrmazda3 6th Gear August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 I would do the following 1st before proceeding further 1) Set your temperature to the hottest range and full blast it 2) Check if your air con filter has been changed i.e 20K interval If still cannot resolve, some Bros here use those spray tin can solution which might help Last resort, send it to the air con fellows to do a thorough service for your air con
Help1 1st Gear August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 err...usually either the interior is damp and mouldy thus the sourish odour (u need to air the cabin more often, dry the mat under the sun, keep the car clean and hygiene) or someone in the car has a distinct BO probably too much meat and lack of exercise)
Tas0577 1st Gear August 19, 2008 Author Share August 19, 2008 Guys, Thanks for all your reply and my car is still new, less than 3 months so the cabin filter should not be so dirty. I was suspecting that the 3A carmat smell did contribute a bit on the sourish smell as I understand that the air is suck in from the inlet from the passenger seat foot area. But I was wondering that this sourish smell actually evolves so early as the car is still quite new.
Speddevil Neutral Newbie August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 yup spray those odour removal. Might help
Bieffe 2nd Gear August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 Just park your car in the hot afternoon sun of Singapore for a few days and the smell sure gone. Also when u go home at night off the compressor when entering MSCP so that the blower is still on with the A/c cut off. This will dry up any moisture before u park ur car. Sour smell is not from the mats lah...that is plastic smell.

It is proven in my car. After a few days, those sour smell are history. The best is to use the one that sell in Guardian, it that has carbon in it. Pisces69 6th Gear August 19, 2008 Share August 19, 2008 (edited) For me I feel the best & cheapest solution is to spray some Lysol into the cooling coil & let it sit for a day. It keeps mould & fungus at bay for at least 6 months. Mould & fungus produces an unpleasant smell as a by-product. Like farting. A spray can on Lysol only costs $6 & if u DIY( Like me) the spraying, that already is a big saving. 1 can can use 2 to 3 times so each time is about $2 only. But if the smell is a leak in your cooling coil, u need to get it repaired at the AC shop. Edited August 19, 2008 by Pisces69

If the smell comes from there, u just have to air out the car as often as possible. Maybe on cool nights, don't use AC & open the windows a little to help get rid of the smell asap. ↡ Advertisement
