Can we base on mileage instead of period for servicing?

Hi,

Understand that we should service our car either 10k mileage or 6 mth when using syn oil.

If my usage is only 4k mileage till date with only 6mth period. Can I continue to wait until 10k, then go servicing? If wait until 10k mileage, mostly probably I have to wait for another 6 more mth to go.

Will that impact the reliability of the car if wait until 1 yr for next servicing?

Kindly advise..thx

go for servicing according to ur mileage, do not follow the time period.

my ride(or parents) is around 10 months old and it has already gone for its 5th servicing. [nod] or rather 55k servicing.

u should service your cr every 6mths or 10k whichever comes first...

if ur a low mileage driver, use cheaper mineral oils, and stick to 6mth oil changes...

coz oil will oxidise and lose its lubricity over time...

Turbocharged

yes... that is, oil will degrade over time and lose its protection abilities.

buy cheap oil and change according to the schedule, if the TS is are unable to hit the mileage before the period.

Oh, if oil is the only concerns, I can tentative do the oil change. Is that good enough? The rest of the fully servicing at 10k mileage.......ok?

The headache part...like BM of toyota.... stated in warrranty condition..to either service in mileage or 6 mth duration...

the allowance period given is ....6mth + 21 days (allowance given )

that my headache...also....have to go for 30K servicing which my mileage only 26K ..but gonna cross the 6 month duration soon....any advice?

You should service your car every 10,000km or 6months, whichever is earlier.

Cos even if your mileage is low, the oil will deteriorate over time and offer lesser protection to your car engine.

actually to be honest,an oil change IS the main part of a servicing package. how many mech do u see actually doing the full details of a, say 10k servicing?? most just change oil(and filter),look here look there, touch here touch there...let u idle for few hrs(if u send to agent) then tell u its done...

so if u tentatively do the oil change, its as good as the servicing itself..remember to change oil filter.

bigger scale servicing would constitute powersteering oil change,atf oil change,brake fluid oil change,fuel filter,02sensor checks,checks to bushes n suspension links,engine mounts,brakepads rotors,caliper oil seals,aircon filter,air filter,coolant flush,tyre checks..etc

wat i want to point out is that many(mech, workshops) do not do the following, unless instructed to,or if the parts fail them.by then the cost of repairing the parts would exceed the cost of proper preventive maintanence.

Same goes for my dad's car, he seldom drive it and when the 6 months is due

(before the due servicing mileage) we still send the car for servicing. Reason being,

we dun want BM to have excuses to void the warranty. Infact, it is stated in T&C that

in order for our BM's vehicle to be eligible for the 3 (+2) years warranty, we have

to do servicing every 10KM or 6 months (whichever comes 1st).

if BM state that as a warranty condition, then you better stick to it. dun let them have any excuse later on...

actually where did it state that engine oil cannot last more than 6 months...

or is all this BS came out by the car workshop and outside workshop to force ppl to go back and do servicing so that they can charge $$$...

think at the end it's really weighing the true cost

I believe the TS has an OPC or a uber low usage car. in any case, for mineral i stick to 3 mths period.

Cost of 3 mths mineral oil change b4 mileage - $50-100

Cost of potentially killing your engine prematurely - $XXXX

some things no pt trying to cut corners on ba. life already so complicated.
