interior is impressive...pity that it doesn't fly...

monetary wise, it's not the best thing to do to buy a hybrid...if you care about fuel consumption, why not cycle??? once you buy a car, fuel consumption should be last on the list...it all depends on your driving style...if you are those who drive at 80kph on the highway, then obviously you will return good fuel economy.

but if you drive at 120kph, then needless to say...plus do you always ferry passengers??? and the start-stop traffic will make your car drink even more...

At 50MPG, 3G Prius is closest it gets to flying in an Airbus A380 fuel efficiency.

In fact, its dash interface closer to aviation's ergonomic layout using near-holograhic display.

NOTE the raised "MPH" image overlapping the background indicators.

So tell me why GM, Chreystel and Ford are rolling out hybrids & EV when they are dead or dying?

Why Toyota and Honda are rolling out their 3rd generation hybrids? Read THIS

No brainer will know that going fast will consume more fuel, no mater what vehicle.

the steering wheel looks heavy ah. and also why the lobang under the gear shift? for kids to play catching is it?

Ah, the infamous controversial extended gear console arch. [;)]

Some 2nd gen Prius owners HATES this design as it takes away the empty central "walkway" that exist in their version.

IMO, the designers were trying to strike a balance between driver-centric layout while retaining practical usage of space.

So it is a matter of taste and growing into it. OR Toyota might even decide to remove it when going into production by mid 2009.

This is closed up shot of the exhibit 2010 Prius roof top solar cells for powering interior air ventilation.

An optional feature and very practical when parked under a sunny sky.

Helps keeps cabin cool without running engine or a/c compressor.

2010 Prius instrumentation panel display at near eye-level. This replaces the current touch screen MFD located lower in the dash.centre.

Modes are selectable from TTC on the steering wheel.

Besides the usual speedo, fuel level and misc indicators, the real time Energy Monitor, historical consumption trend, battery state and ECO drive indicators are also integrated into the wide display.

Optional feature includes roof top solar panel + adjustable moon-roof.

This will power the vehicle a/c parked under sunny day to reduce cabin temperature without starting the gasoline engine.

Comes with a/c remote control.

Finally, the 2010 3-generation Prius is now in full production since early April.

I understand some local PIs already indented them, before 18 May launch.

I understand the petrol engine will be up-rated to 1.8L (from current 1.5L). Good for +power, but not fuel consumption.

But still with electric power steering and CVT transmission? Naaah [thumbsdown]

2010 Prius has a new 1.8l 2ZR-FXE

It is derived from dual VVTi 2ZR-FE (as in 2009 Wish ) but with Atkinson cycle design.

FC 15-10 test: 38km/l

From: TOYOTA News Release April 3, 2009l

But still with electric power steering and CVT transmission?

This is a very common misconception about Prius's CVT.

Prius uses a different type of CVT known as "eCVT", which uses planetary gearing system instead of belt.

This is the key component which gives the HSD the full-hybrid performance.

In fact, the engine and its drive train system is entirely belt-less which provide direct drive to the wheels, hence no slippage.

(left) 2nd generation eCVT and (right) new 2010 belt-less design.

Although the 2010 drive train used the same HSD concept as the 2004 model, it has been 90% redesigned to reduced weight by 20% while increasing the overall power out to 134hp and improving the FC at the same time.

Overall results in <10 sec century sprint.

How much will it cost when landed in SG? In USA, it will be more desirable as a fashion icon for the richs than for green reasons...lol

Just curious .. why does everyone say hybrids are good for stop-start traffic?

What if you get stuck in jams for a long time? Battery sapped, must still start engine.

Worst still, if you drive a car like mine that weighs 2 tonnes, imagine how much power only the engine can produce when the battery power is used up. That's because the engine will have to charge the battery and power the car at the same time.

Every morning, I enter the Lornie-Farrer Road jam with near full battery and end at Holland Road with an empty one. As such, I don't even use the aircon. Worse if it's jams in town on weekends. FC improves or fuel is saved but at the cost of the performance of the car for the next few minutes when the battery is used up and needs recharging.

No, hybrid isn't now no longera fashion statement for the rich and greenies.

The next stage is getting hybrid main-stream, which means cheaper and practical hybrids.

Honda is doing that with Insight II (<SGD73k from PI)

The 2010 Prius basic version should be < SGD78 based on the "L" version.

Overall, I am very positive about hybrid drive train becoming the norm within the next 5 years.
