I don't think civil service only recognizes those 3 in Singapore. Don't go for those useless ones provided by unknown private schools. If your GMAT and your uni GPA is high enough, you can consider CGSB and Insead. Both have a campus in Singapore and are ranked within the top 15 in the world. Definately better recognized than ntu/nus/smu.

What's the ROI on getting the top MBAs like chicago and insead? In Singapore context pls, don't say can go USA and get a high pay job, i mean ROI if working in Spore after getting MBA.

I agree with you. MBA is not like your first degree education. Just study and pass exams. It is about contacts and network of people. Schools like Insead and Chicago business schools or top overseas universities like Harvard Business School have MBA students who may be CEOs, COOs, top professionals, leaders of MNCs or government related ministries (not referring to Singapore only) whose contacts and network are invaluable. And sometimes in life, a good opportunity does not mean you have to have good paper qualification only. Knowing these people and fostering relationships helps a lot too.

I would say either go for the best like Insead or go for the cheapest accredited one, whether it's PT or distance learning. Accreditation bodies are AMBA (UK), AQUIS (Europe and most stringent) and AACSB (USA).

Of course if the TS knows exactly what he wants other than cheap and good, then it's much easier to choose.

Telling you the ROI will require more data than I have. Only the school will have that data (and it might not even be accurate since you want a Singapore context). Do note that the guy in the story was doing a career switch so he would have to take a pay cut. Why else would a company hire an inexperienced MBA holder over an experienced degree holder?

But if you are talking about an MBA holder from a top school and an MBA holder from some lesser school, it is obvious who a company will prefer.

how do one even measure ROI for a degree given your link to the blog? and measuring ROI is not that simple in any given case.

quote: "throw a rock and dozens of degree holders will "die"?" <_< end quote from the blog.

What I mean by ROI is after spending >$100K on a top MBA, what can one actually expect after that (in Singapore)? If I am currently in a junior managment position, or a sales position, after get Insead MBA can I apply for a senior management/director job in MNC with huge leap in salary? This is assuming I stay in the same line, say F&B or chemical.

I ask this questions because I am really interested to know what are people in Singapore really expecting from their MBAs, especially those really expensive ones.

At the moment, my entire savings >$100K I can throw into a top MBA. I am junior position, just enuf to qualify for the program, I go in, i network rub shoulders with big shots and I song (but not sure if they are keen to rub shoulders with small fry like me or not). 2 years later, i grad without any savings, but i get the cert. What then?

Anyone can share?
