Travel INsurance with good Vehicle Rental Excess cover

Will be planning a driving trip to Australia. I'm weighing the option of whether to include the 'Reduce Reliability" package from the car hirer. Generally most Car hirer will charge from AUD$3300 - $5000 excess regardless damge is your fault or not, but with the "Reduce Liabiilty: package, this excess can reduce to AUD $330-440. But this "Reduce Liability" Package don't come cheap, at rounf AUD $26 per day, for a 8 days, trip, this would mean a extra AUD$208 on car rental for peace of mind.

Since I'll be buying travel insurance, I'm hoping to find one with good rental vehicle excess. So far checked AIG =$750. AXA=$1000. Tenet=$500, MSIG Premium plan =$1500.

Anymore recommendations?

ya, seems to be so. Like that no need to get premium travel plan liao. The excess of $500 for basic plan can already cover the 'Reduce liability" of AUD$440

one way is to buy insurance in the country u r going to. they have "term" insurance meant for their people who rents car for a couple of months kind. will be cheaper than what the car rental company offers... but i don't know if it is only meant for people from their own country. and the hassle involved....

actually just go for the insurance offered by rental company, it is only 8 days.

and excess should/will be covered by the rental company if u take up LDW/CDW. i know hertz includes LDW/CDW in their rental already.

the add on insurance is for 3rd party claim, total loss of the car etc etc.... the last thing u want during holiday...

I bought an annual plan (Worldwide) for couple thru CITIBANK, known as Savvy Traveler Plus (underwritten by ACE insurance). Paid a premium of $264 (this price is for CITI Card Customers who apply online). The benefit schedule, among other things, includes an item known as Rental Car Excess - $500. Can anyone please advise what is this Rental Car Excess, and how does it work?

From what I think, if you get into accident in your rental car resulting in your rental damaged, straightaway you pay the rental car from $2000-$5000. After you return back to singapore, you can claim back $500 from travel insurance. Not much, but if put you in a difficult position if you wanted to purchase reduce reliability to can reduce your excess to probably $200-$500.

Try to breath some life back to this thread...hope will have some response

I bought MSIG travel ins premium plan that cover rental car insurance excess max S$1000 only.

I read the car rental in Iceland most self-risk after include whatever insurance that I can buy still cost more than S$1000.

Is there any insurance out there that offers stand alone for rental cal excess while overseas?
