Gearoil 1st Gear June 3, 2009 Share June 3, 2009 Just checking as I am being scheduled for this surgery. Anyone had spine fusion? Any implication after all these years? Since you already have a first surgery and was a failed Back surgery (FBS) you don't have much option left. Of course, you can opt for local med to control it and bear with it till your later years before doing fusion. You made a grave mistake as at your age, back surgery should only be a last resort or in severve spinal trauma cases. Although instrumentation for fusion have improved, the best treatment is still only in the States. Positional placement of fixation screws have greatly improved, with device like the O- Arm but the overall result after surgery is still not satifactory, if you still have many more active years left. Replacing with artificial disc is a no...no and if you had opted for inmobilisation of veterbra, at best you'll have 10 years before problems of premature wear and deterioration of the subsequent vetebra occurs, which will aftect nerve existing from those unafftected vetebra. Take care. All the Best. ================================================================ Few doctors nowadays treat ppl with a heart and before you know it , you are just another product for commercialisation. Kxbc Turbocharged June 3, 2009 Share June 3, 2009 Is it the case whereby parts of the vertebrate starts to fuse together thereby reducing mobility? My reservist buddy was diagnosed with this too last year. Downgraded immediately to Pes C L don't-know what. The excuse IPPT type. He said got some pain and taking some medication. No mention of surgery. But he's doing physio now. He's only 37.
Amokie Neutral Newbie June 3, 2009 Author Share June 3, 2009 28 yrs old.... well, as per first surgery, NOW then i am being told the operation was to remove the surround tissue arund the nerve to release pressure caused by the disc budge in L4/5. so the disc budge in L4/5 is still there and 2 specialists already said since i am young, better to do another surgery - dissec the disc and and use metal screws for support
Slowfist79 Clutched June 3, 2009 Share June 3, 2009 I had disc replacement sugery done about 8 yrs back when i was serving NS. Back pain is still there although not as bad as before. I continue to have an active lifestyle which includes gym work and some martial arts although not as intense as before. I believe that i would be due for another surgery to replace the existing disc in a couple of years time. This time, they would be replacing it with a titanium disc which should be permanent. ↡ Advertisement
