Hi guys,

Was checking my lancer just not and discovered that my coolant level is somewhere near the low level. It is normal to drop till so fast? My current mileage is around 12k, just done a 10k service. By right, during the servicing, they should top up for me ? I seldom check the coolant level, thk once in a few moinths, so not too sure what is the last reading. Should i send to the mit workshop to check or can i top up the coolant myself? Based on my manual, there should have one reservior tank but i couldnt find it, can any lancer user guide me where it is it located ? Thanks for the help. i know i am quite noob in car maintenance. LOL..

Thanks

Jo

Which model lancer? I'm not familiar with lancer ex, but if its the glx the coolant reservoir is just beside the battery.

Just top up with water to any level between max and min, and monitor, if continuously decease then need mechanic to check. Usually the level will rise and decrease slightly in the reservoir tank and its normal.

yes, it is the GLx model. Found one coolant tank beside the battery with the cover stated" coolant". From there i checked the level and found it to be quite low. So can i directly add distilled water to that tank itself ?

distilled water = battery water...

if u dun hav coolant wif u, juz add plain water... dun anyhow assume distilled water for everyting...

No need distilled water, normal tap water will do. Fill until its between the max and min level, it will fluctuate around there.

Also check that the radiator cap is tight, if loose water may also escape from there.

Thanks a lot.

If the conditions still remain the same, it is best to send to workshop to check, right ? Normally, how long can the coolant level last ?

If the above conditions persist, please send your car back to CnC to check.

As of now, monitor for a week or two.

Coolant should not drop drastically to even near the low level.

My ride is closing to 3 years and 70k mileage. I check and top up the coolant with tap water (if necessary) once every 2 weeks or a month. Never have I noticed my coolant drop so low.

i thk i should start to check the level from now on. Only check in once a while and didnt know it will drop till so low. So its okay if i just add distilled water to it ?

You observe for a week or two. Do not add anything.

If it continues to drop to low level, go back to CnC.

Check the bottom of your car for any leakage of green fluid (I doubt so for a 10k mileage new car).

will it be okay if i dont add anything to it? since the indicator now is somewhere around L level

You can try to add distilled or normal tap water to it but I would advise you to send it to CnC for check.

After topping it up with water, try to see if there is any leakage from the bottom of your car, ie beneath the engine.

Just open the cap of the coolant reservoir tank when the engine is cool to top up with TAP WATER since you are so worried abt the level at L.

Not so difficult mah.

If you do not already know, it is common to see some fluid at the bottom if you have just turned on your a/c.. those are merely water from the a/c condenser [;)]

If your coolant is coloured, look for coloured fluid..

Good luck [thumbsup]

Thanks for the clarification.

I was referring to the literal leakage of coloured fluid. [thumbsup]
