current or classic?

there is always the classic Blackadder series, Are you being served, One foot in the Grave, Keeping up Appearances,

If can really go for some slapstick there is Some Mothers Do 'ave em and the classic Mr Bean

Another classic I used to get a laugh out of is Dad's Army,

Modern one would be The Office (UK edition, the show started there), I think there is another one called "The Centre" which is kinda sorta a reinvention of Hi De Hi, Maybe the Young Ones.

Others that are classics would include On The Busses, To the Manor Born...

thats about all I can dredge up for right now - I'm sure more will come to me later

Not slapstick like BlackAdder lah. Dun really like the Office too cos it all centers around that sarcastic moron.

"Intelligent: as in you really learn something out of it. I personally enjoyed Yes, Prime Minister series cos I do really learn about the internal politics of a civil service without ever joining one.

Extremely witty dialogue and not to mention it helps improve my vocabulary tremendously !

There is really excellent script-writing in there. :)

I used to love this show ... that was on ages ago.

I can also vaguely recall one comedy set in a hospital ward, can remember the name but I can totally recall the theme song...

I'm H A P P Y, I know I am I'm sure I am I'm H A P P Y...

does anyone recall?

I like 'Mind Your Language' too.. reflect Britain of the time very well. It was still relevant in the 80's.

I think the one who played the china gal was from M'sia. From a super rich family.

"Only when I laugh" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077057/

Never watched that one myself (at least not that I recall). When you mentioned hospital-based sitcoms, I was thinking of the "Doctor in the House" series - that was funny.

Darth - when I first saw your thread title I was all ready to recommend Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister. Until I read your post. Still, if you haven't read the books based on the series, do pick them up, they're even funnier in print form, in my humble opinion.

Also check out Fawlty Towers - not too cerebral, but not ridiculous like 'Allo 'Allo either.

Somehow never really got into Monty Python - I still think Fawlty Towers is Cleese's best work.
