GM Holden recalls 9,000 cars over faulty fuel hose

SYDNEY: General Motors' Australian subsidiary GM Holden on Thursday recalled 9,000 Cruze sedans over a faulty fuel hose, after a raft of damaging glitches hit Japan's Toyota and Honda.

A company spokesman said some of the hoses on 1.8-litre MY10 JG Cruze models had sprung a leak, and some owners may notice leaking fuel, a petrol smell or loss of power. No accidents or injuries have been reported.

"A condition has been identified where, in some instances, the fuel feed hose may not have been manufactured correctly and could result in a fuel leak," the spokesman said in a statement.

"We are aware of 71 cases of a reported fuel leak due to this condition."

The recall, which affects 9,098 cars in Australia and another 485 in New Zealand, comes after Toyota pulled eight million cars over accelerator and brake problems.

Honda has also recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles over substandard brakes, exploding airbags and power windows which risked catching fire. Daihatsu, a Toyota subsidiary, has been hit by similar problems.

"We regret any inconvenience caused. However, safety is our number one priority and it is our duty of care to inform customers as soon as an issue comes to light," the Holden spokesman said.

More recalls from other manufacturers will follow soon. Honestly, almost all cars have some issues...if don't recall now...wait until when? Any recalls will looks 'minor' as compared to Toyota's? What's 50k, 200K, etc...vehicles compared to millions of toyotas (+ connected to fatal accidents)...

Neutral Newbie

Car makers with zero recall can mean......

1) Their cars are so perfect that no fault can be found after making millions of them, or...

2) They simply bo chap (dun care) even there are faults as long as nobody can prove that ppl die due to defects in their cars.

Buying a car that falls into the 2nd category can be as bad, if not worse than those with recalls.

Car makers around the world don't produce all their parts themself but rely on common parts produced by major OEM suppliers.

That means when one particular brand having parts defect, it's likely that other brands are affected also. So, those keep quiet are likely to fall into category 2.

Juz my tots...
