If there's one thing a Mandarin enjoys, it's being chauffeured. And because China has no small number of the world's Mandarins, BMW has created a long-wheelbase 5 Series exclusively built in and provided for that market. The model is produced in BMW's Shenyang plant, where it's given an extra 5.5 inches for the rear passengers who travel in "luxurious grand touring comfort" due to the rear axle tailored to each model. These CDM specials even get a bespoke rear seat.

Three engines are to be offered in outputs starting at 204 horsepower and going up to 306 hp

actually they have had this long wheelbase version (E60) for the Mainland Chinese market for quite some time already. And it's not just for the 5 series. Audi A6 also has. Not surprising that it carries on to the F10 series.

If it's selling at the same/similar price, the Chinese generally prefer a longer wheelbase, and sales response since the introduction till now has proven the theory correct.

i'm sure BMW will heed the demands of LWB models in US and other Asian markets...

that's what Mercedes-Benz have understood and they'll be making the LWB W212 E-Class at the end of this year...

and better still, though initially developed for the Chinese market (due to really strong demands for such cars there),

they'll also make it for Europe and US markets if i'm not mistaken...

hopefully, they'll also make it for RHD markets...

cheers!!

depends lah...

if the owner of the car wants to drive his car, the SWB model still better, cos it'll definitely perform better...

but if he's those who will hire a chauffeur,

the LWB models will do him better...

rear seats can put Entertainment systems, tables, fridge, centre compartment, rear reclining and massaging seats with ventilative feature...etc...

these are things which you wouldn't want to put in a normal 5-series sedan would you?? it will eat up all the rear seat space available...and you won't be able to ferry people then...
