SimonTan 2nd Gear July 14, 2010 Share July 14, 2010 Dealer take in a higher price for my old car when I sign for a new Honda on Sunday. Yes, price might increase. I remember there was a thread where one forumer claimed he made paper profit of $12k due to the April quota cut. Maybe this time august cut, the paper profit will jump another step. Maybe $18k? Blacklancer Neutral Newbie July 14, 2010 Share July 14, 2010 Alot of 2nd hand post higher selling price of new car. Was at showroom VW golf 1.4 Sport new 105k (after 15 promo discount) , but if you check all the sgcarmart post, most advert 106k for 1 year old car, worst of all COE only 8k for some. They think their 2nd hand got special authenic smell.
Blacklancer Neutral Newbie July 14, 2010 Share July 14, 2010 Funny i wonder why people sell to dealer at lower price and dealer sell off at higher. Just post direct, offer a realistic price, price should be better than what dealer offer. Why let dealer take profit for no reason, they dun provide much service anyway, often give you lousy reason why your car is not worth tat much. Let the dealer go bankrupt.!!!! Maroon5 5th Gear July 14, 2010 Share July 14, 2010 the low coe resale cars now trying to sell at current coe prices...if can, jus wait...once the 'real' 30-40k coe comes into the resale mkt, prices shd correct..
SimonTan 2nd Gear July 14, 2010 Share July 14, 2010 (edited) You will be surprised that car buyers prefer to trust a second hand car dealers who promised them the sky and also handles all the paper works. There is not many buyer who wants to buy from private owner for fear that the car is spolit and no warranty and no easy loan services. So it's really hard to sell the car privately. I tried to sell off my car in may when the resale price was shooting up. There was no private buyers when I advertise on sgcarmart and other free website. The usual dealer will offer lower price, but they can help to clear the bank loan, give cashier orders the next day, etc. The convenience is why second hand dealers are still raking in the cash by selling the same car from me to another buyer. Yenyenpark 1st Gear July 14, 2010 Author Share July 14, 2010 when car prices or COE goes down.. resale car will see no business, and will change their business model to parallel import.. when car prices goes up, they will do via-versa..

The export price shouldn't differ much so whatever they can make from the price increase they will. Just spend more time in Sgcarmart and you should be able to find a better priced bargain. I can still find 2006 Getz1.6A with yearly depreciation of ard $3000 or 2006 Cefiro2.3 at ard $4400/yr.

Perrier 1st Gear July 14, 2010 Share July 14, 2010 Ok...if dont wanna let dealers take profit then how to go about selling my car? Its still under bank loan then paperwork and all? Trade assist actually can perform these paperwork plus loan application for buyer at a fee. Definitely cheaper than dealers and it is also easier for both seller and buyer who are not familiar. Frankly, ever since the intro of COE, 2nd Hand car prices are totally unpredictable as just a difference of 1 month the COE prices for 2 same model cars can be as much as $5~10k. The problem is that till today Buyers still kena Snook by Dealers both ways. (if they sell they give your $3k above scrap value and sell it @ $10k profit). When buyer meet Direct owner, they always ask ridiculous prices like machiam theyre 2nd hand car dealer... Edited July 14, 2010 by Tigerwoods

When they see a car advertised cheaper than others of the same model, year&month, they will judge : Sure got accident, or else why so cheap ? When they see the car price higher than, they will say : Maybe Owner take care + install many accessories. I helped a fren get a Hyundai Verna (May/2007) in Dec 2009. That car was Advertised in SGcarmart + Cats for around 3 mths and no takers. The dealer reduce price by $1k every mth for the 3 mths (from $32k to $29k). Other dealers' Verna priced higher but SOLD. I went there with my friend and found the car mileage only 25kkm, Service book indicated 20kkm service in Komoco in 2008, still have new car smell. Very well kept. we got it for $28k paid in cash. We checked Verna with other dealers that time, and all wanted around $33k. So there are some nice gems around in the market. U just have to search...
