Hoped its not the same 2.7 in-line 4 on duty in the Fortuner/Prado......

163bhp with abt 241NM doesn't sound exciting, worst is that its pair with a 4spd auto in both vehicles......

True, perhaps in both Vehicles can accept, though the FC is horrendous and performance very so-so.

But in a LEXUS RX.....? A bit CMI.

Seems that the engine is the same as in the Fortuner/Prado,

tho appears to tune up to 187BHP and abt 252NM......

Might it be a 2WD????

No info on the auto gearbox.

from experience, entry level luxury cars usually sell better. except when the smaller engine car is a turbo and more expensive.

esp for the 3000cc barrier. road tax before and after 3000cc is quite diff and not many people are willing to pay.

plus, hardly anyone uses a RX to go off road.

Lexus's Thai ambitions

Published: 25/06/2010 at 03:43 AM

Newspaper section: Motoring

In a bid to boost its presence and competitiveness in the luxury car market, Lexus is planning to expand its product portfolio in Thailand through more engine variations in certain model lineups and possibly integrate an assembly line at one of Toyota's production facilities here.

Later this year, Japan's top nameplate is set to offer a third engine variant of its RX sport-utility vehicle in the guise of RX270 with 2WD. For the first time, the new entry-level RX would be getting a four-cylinder petrol engine currently used in the Toyota Fortuner and Land Cruiser Prado.

Such a move would help widen the RX customer base, which currently has only two pricey options including the V6-powered RX350 and hybrid-driven RX450h, both of which are priced at over B5m due to 50% excise tax.

With a lower 40% rate, the RX270 could be priced in the B4m range which would bring it close in price to the Volvo XC60, Land Rover Freelander 2 and the BMW X3, which moves upmarket in next-generation form due later this year.

"The RX has always been a popular model," noted a Toyota insider. "But the problem with it [in this generation] is high price due to the lack of a smaller engine."

Earlier, Lexus had pledged to not build a four-pot motor for the RX in the form of RX240 (Toyota Harrier-style) fearing a diluted image.

A more enhanced engine line is not only envisaged for the RX. For long, Thai product planners have aspired for a six-pot unit for the flagship LS saloon which its parent firm in Japan refused to develop.

i m very disappointed with lexus/borneo for down-grading lexus brand

i loved lexus since the inception of the first LS400 way back in 1989 when i saw the ad on the pointer n violin recording inside the car. i dreamed of owning a lexus one day.

now they now only bring in smaller cc (which is still acceptable) but, to have a 4 cylinder engine in their variants is unimaginable. first was the H250 using 4 cylinders, now RX270 also using 4 cylinders!!!!

it is no longer a lexus then. it has become a toyota harrier in disguise. previously when the RX300 was 3 litre, the harrier was 2.4. now the RX350 is 3.5litre, the harrier becomes 2.7 litre, but they badged it as RX270!!!!

no wonder they r dropping worldwide in sales.

i m sure hyundai, will overtake them (toyota) very soon given the improvement n techonology in their latest models like the new i45 n the upcoming new avante (1.6 with 140bhp n 6 speed auto). the i45 with the GDI engine giving 200bhp will b an interesting n exciting choice when it is being launched hopefully end of the year.

I guess BM is losing Lexus market share due to fierce competition from the new E-class, 5-series, Audi, even GS300 is selling at $20K discount (from $187K).
