For my case, i will choose the New 2011 Corolla Altis. With new engine (Dual VVT-i) which mean more horsepower. It is also cheaper than Premio by about $10k.

I will choose the car that I can afford, and with the current sky high COE prices, the car that can last at least 5 years or more because I can foresee myself using it for that said period or even longer.....

For that price get a VW Jetta 1.4TSi, go and test drive and comapre the interior with the Altis. It is 2 different class.
Equipment wise is also much better, 6 airbag, ESP, 7 spd DSG gearbox etc......

Jetta 1.4TSI already have new model....

can you live with driving an old model (current one in Singapore)??? laugh.gif

Premio is good....but why don't you consider the new Allion too???

Altis is the safest choice,

but Premio/ Allion have much more spacious interior.... laugh.gif

Well but its just like DSG... Its just about acceptance of newer technology.

Why is DSG more acceptable ? Bcos it is performance based while CVT is fuel economy-based?

Or bcos DSG is conti so it is perceived to be a "good thing" ? lol

For me (for whichever car, no bias):

Avoid CVT. Choose A/T or M/T.
Avoid Electric Power Steering. Choose Hydraulic P/S.
Avoid MIT. Choose MIJ.
Avoid Torsion Beam Rear Axle suspension. Choose Multilinks.

Then you will have a car that responds well to throttle changes, has better steering feel, better road holding on cornering and all these with tops Japanese quality.

Purely for demonstration purposes, take the old Lexus IS200 (for superb handling, balance and steer):
- Front double wishbone suspension
- Rear double wishbone suspension
- Hydraulic power steering
- F/R RWD
- MIJ
- IL-6 engine

As for Conti stepout considerations:
VW DSG? Avoid that too - plenty problems now.
