Wonder if they price it competitively when selling here. [grin]

Lotus to Introduce 2 New Sports Cars and an SUV, CEO Says

http://www.thedrive.com/news/18114/lotus-to-introduce-two-new-sports-cars-and-an-suv

Lotus has announced that it plans to introduce two new sports car models in 2020, followed by, of all things, an SUV. These will be the first new models Lotus has introduced since the Evora in 2009 and since Zhejiang Geely Holding Group bought the company last year, reports Automotive News.

Lotus CEO and super-speeder Jean-Marc Gales didn't give many details about the new cars, though he did say that one of them would replace an existing model. An updated version of an existing platform will be used for one of the new cars as well. The other will be built around an all-new carbon fiber tub like some top-end supercars. It will be similar to the Lotus 3-Eleven track-only car, but remain road legal. Both new sports vehicles will be built at Lotus's United Kingdom factory.

Lotus has stated for years that it would like to increase sales to 3,000 cars per year. Last year Lotus only sold 1,600 cars, though that was still an increase from 2016. Gales predicts that with the addition of an SUV, sales could exceed 10,000 per year.

But let's talk about the elephant in the room—a Lotus SUV. An SUV is the antithesis of Lotus founder Colin Chapman's philosophy of "simplify and add lightness." Snowfall totals of 6 to 8 inches are expected in hell the day the Lotus SUV debuts. However, one other former manufacturer of solely sports cars has already gone down this road—Porsche. Fifteen years ago, Porsche introduced the Cayenne, the first vehicle that isn't a sports car that Porsche had ever made (yes, the 914 was still a sports car, not a VW Beetle with high aspirations). Since then it's become Porsche's most popular and successful vehicle, enabling the brand to keep building the sports cars we love.

So while Colin Chapman may be rolling in his grave at the idea of a Lotus SUV, there's a strong argument that such a vehicle is necessary for Lotus to survive. Considering its intended lineup of one SUV and five sports cars, it doesn't seem like Lotus is forgetting about its roots—much.

Let's hope one of the new sports car is the new Espirit.

Neutral Newbie
Guys, please stay away from PUBLIC AUTO WORLD CAR DEALER. They are trying very hard to sell the yellow Lotus EXIGE S 240 GP CUP 1.8 which was a stolen car and claimed total loss to insurance company.

We were promised with accident free and tip top condition of the car before paying the deposit. Couple of days before the car was supposed to be handed over, we found out from several blogs on the particular Lotus Exige that it was a stolen car. For more details, please refer to:

Extract from the blog:

"this Exige that Public Auto Sdn Bhd advertised as the perfect ride maintained in tip-top condition by its owner, was technically un-true. This was a stolen car that was a total loss to the insurance company; and thereafter sold vide an auction to the highest bidder whom would then repair and resell the car. The used car dealer probably paid not more than RM60k for the car."

With the chassis number and other details we had on hand, we contacted Lotus Malaysia to verify the information mentioned in the blog. True enough, we understand from the Manager of Lotus Malaysia that the Exige met an accident and flipped in 2013/2014. The car was declared total loss and stored in Lotus warehouse. In 2015, Liberty (insurance Co) paid for the storage charges and towed the car to Meg-Techs Sdn Bhd.

The car subsequently went under the ownership of someone else and was reported stolen on 21 Feb 2017 but recovered on 16 Apr 2017. There is a police report on this.

DETAILS OF THE EXIGE:

Model : Lotus Exige S240

Colour: Yellow

Carplate : WC4917B

Chassis : SCCLHHWCXAHC10521

We attempted to claim back our deposit from the unscrupulous PUBLIC AUTO WORLD CAR DEALER but they have yet to revert and gave us all sorts of nonsense excuses. They insisted to charge us RM3,000 of processing fee and will only refund us the remaining balance.

The car is now back on sale again with a lower price to entice buyers:

Is Lotus plotting a 1000bhp EV hypercar for 2020?

https://www.autoclassics.com/posts/news/lotus-hypercar-plans

Famous British sports car manufacturer and Formula 1 team Lotus is set to break new ground by entering the hypercar market in the next few years under its Chinese owner Geely. As is the norm for hypercars, this will be a limited run car, but according to Autocar looks will scrap the internal combustion engine entirely in favour of an electric motor. It could become the most expensive, fastest and rarest Lotus production car of all time.

A concept car could be ready as soon as next year, and Autocar believes that the rumoured project is already under development in the UK at Lotus’s Hethel base. The electric power will make this the fastest accelerating Lotus ever, and will well eclipse any other Lotus on price, with an earmarked £2,000,000 ($2,549,490, €2,248,640) plus price tag, putting it firmly in line with the likes of McLaren and Ferrari, whose hypercars are future classics.

We contacted Lotus on the subject of such a vehicle, of which it replied: "Lotus's development team is exploring numerous engineering projects, across multiple vehicle sectors, using several propulsion systems. As part of the development process, these projects undergo continual and stringent evaluation and only the best will reach production. However, as is company policy, Lotus does not comment on future product programmes or speculation."

Geely has varying ownership percentages in different automotive brands, including Volvo and its Swedish performance partner Polestar, but only Lotus has the heritage and the high performance nous to bring the Chinese company into the higher echelons of the automotive market. It would mark a sea-change for Lotus Lotus as it has previously focus on lightweight track day-style specials and sports cars, and an integral part of its DNA since the middle of last century.

According to Autocar, the all-electric drivetrain will potentially give the car over 1000bhp, eclipsing Lotus’s F1 cars on power, and quite likely speed too. Further technical details are scarce, especially on what type of battery technology the car may use, but it is fair to assume that Geely-owned all-electric brand Polestar will be involved and benefit from such research and development. All of the other classic supercar brands that have expanded into hypercars have chosen to combine electric power with conventional combustion, but Lotus will be following Formula E team NIO, which set a Nordschleife Nürburgring lap record with its all-electric hypercar.
