Supercharged

Going for holiday in Paris, and going down south to Marseille and NICE.

Besides taking the TGV train, i was thinking of getting rented car and drive down and up....

any one can advise me on driving there?

I know the french people are known to be notorious drivers

Marseille is about 780km from Paris.

If i decided to take TGV train, is there any way i can take cheaper tickets?

my experience tells me that driving everywhere is a breeze so long as it's out of the metropolis.

i rented a car not down south but north in normandy. countryside traffic. :)

My French friend says that driving in downtown Paris is not something any sane tourist should consider, but driving between cities/provinces there is fine. Just that you might need to actively condition yourself to driving on the right, and this means overtaking on the left! Also, according to him, the French are rather intolerant of road hogging so don't stay in overtaking lanes (to the left, not right!)
