IS 250 road tax +$600/year.Slightly lower torque. Considering price & road tax,IS 250 could save you 16k in 10 years.
The_Bear Turbocharged October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 http://www.volvocars.com/sg/all-cars/volvo...things.aspx?hub Will u buy the NEW S60 (S$150K) or the basic IS250 ($166K) I would choose the S60 between the two but why narrow yourself to 2 choices? I feel that the New Mark X would be a better choice than the IS. VW Passat CC or Skoda Superb (the interior space is HUGE but exterior is abit a-hem) are viable alternative to the S60. Go down to the showrooms and take a look, test drive.

Icedbs Turbocharged October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 (edited) to me is either passat cc or s60. The rest either too ex or too cheap or non-conti. Edited October 16, 2010 by Icedbs

The Passat cc 2.L is $178k Dun like the passat rear oval light. Edited October 16, 2010 by Yahgo22
T-wrx Neutral Newbie October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 If you're into design, definitely the IS250. can have a executive look or can be modded to the beng look!
Space2638 Neutral Newbie October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 This is a very complex question. It depends on what you really want. Basically: IS - is a jap car and she's affordable to maintain (mx costs are not significantly more than my Latio. - I have both IS250 and Latio) IS has the V6 whose smoothness is unmatched. IS is extremely reliable. I'm not saying Volvo is not reliable, but you have to spend the $$ to keep it reliable. Volvo: Continental build? It's definitely newer and packed with more features. But if you're going from a jap to a conti, perhaps you might want to ask your friends what's the mx cost on a Volvo like. Especially those turbocharged volvos. My friend had an S60. After 40,000km was asked to do an engine overhaul for $10k. It's your choice. Play safe = IS. Take some risk and have more fun = Volvo.
Yahgo22 1st Gear October 16, 2010 Author Share October 16, 2010 My utmost priority are SAFETY FEATURES. Think the S60 is highly rated in this area.
Space2638 Neutral Newbie October 16, 2010 Share October 16, 2010 Yes, safety FEATURES is really good. As for overall crash-integrity, the 2005 Volvo S60 is poorer than the IS. The 2005 Volvo S60 only achieved an acceptable for the side-impact test and 'good' on the frontal test. 2006 IS250 achieved 'good' for both side-impact test and frontal test. IMHO, the new S60 may have improved, but it is still UNPROVEN yet. (Please correct me if I'm wrong) I feel that Volvo spends too much $$$ on marketing these days - and it has lost its edge over other vehicles in crash-integrity. The Volvos today aren't built like the Volvos in the past anymore...

Class Neutral Newbie October 17, 2010 Share October 17, 2010 I would also take the new s60 anytime over the IS. Reasons: 1. IS is a real old model by now (facelifted several times, recently too) 2. S60 has decent horse power since it is turbo charged. 3. Slightly faster (by 0.2 secs), though not by much. 4. Still made by the Swedes, not china YET. 5. Great interior 6. Much better legroom compared to IS. ↡ Advertisement
