Generally the claim process is different depending on:

a) the insurer

b) the destination country

c) your home country

You should be able to verify this with your policy documentation. The best course of action is to always contact your insurer on their claims line should you have any issue that may require a claim and they will keep your right!

Supercharged

Bought an annual travel insurance from AXA cover 6 April 2017 till 5 April 2018. Paid $246

Was in Thailand doing some volunteer work last week and was bitten by stray dogs on 31 March.

Visited local clinic but they cannot do much.

Came back Singapore on 2 April and went to SGH straightaway. Was surprise that the rabies vaccine (4 jabs) cost me $3300 on the first visit.

Contact AXA and they said no problem and can claim. Just submitted my claim online and hope the claim can go thru.

Will update further after claim successfully.

Update: Submitted claim of $3300 on 3 April 2018.

Submitted further claim of $522 on 17 April 2018.

Total submitted claim is $3822.

Claim approved on 15 May 2018.

Received the payout in bank account on 22 May 2018.

claim $600 base on travel delay.  :D

Went to BKK but was stuck at the airport security for 3 hours.

As a result, miss the flight.

next possible flight was only the day after, hence 24 hours delay

Successful or not?

What kind of proof did you prove so they won't just turn around and say you turned up late?

successful, and within 48hrs, the claim was already approved.

takes 2 weeks to reach into our account.

Well, on the record, we did check in at the SQ counter 3 hours earlier.

However, the custom check and passport counters were super crowded and slow..

Right after we miss the flight, we went to SQ lounge and seek for further assistance.

SQ provide an email where it simply state the flight was changed to the day after.

With that, Etiqa didnt ask much too..

I'm actually quite impressed with this Etiqa, cheap and really efficient.

plus they are the few insurers that actually provide this travel delay.

$50 for every 3 hrs under their basic plans.

S’porean denied travel insurance claim despite 24-hour flight delay

On Aug. 25, Geraldine Ng took to Facebook to describe a “disheartening” incident where her claim for a travel insurance payout was denied.

Travel insurance claim denied

According to Ng’s Facebook post, this is a summary of what allegedly happened:

  • Ng and her friends were on the same flight a few weeks ago.
  • The flight was delayed for 24 hours.
  • Some of Ng’s friends bought travel insurance from NTUC, and managed to get an insurance payout for the flight delay.
  • Ng purchased travel insurance from AIG, and had her claim denied.

Ng said that her claim was denied because “the airline letter did not indicate that the delay was due to mechanical delay”.

“Mechanical” delay

According to AIG’s summary of benefits, travel delays must be due to:

“A major travel event, civil unrest, riot or commotion, strike, adverse weather conditions, actual of suspected mechanical breakdown/derangement or structural defects of the common carrier.”

This does not include what Ng calls “operational” delays, such as air traffic delays or delays in airport operations.

Travel delays also have to be at least six hours before AIG approves a claim (an individual is entitled to S$100 for every six hours of delay).

Are these terms by AIG typical for travel insurance policies though?

Recently I successfully claimed from Income for 24 hr flight delay. No question asked once the airline letter was provided. Total 1000 for whole family of 3, more than the premium (family plan) I paid.
