Shouldn't your friend be more upset about the STA grading and not the dealer in this case? He should be wondering why a gearbox rated B can fail so soon. Honestly I don't see what the dealer did wrong. STA already cleared it; so what is wrong with them selling your friend the car.

Write in to Straits Times la. STA and Vicom really kenna this couple of days.

yah this kind of case has nothing to do with dealer. dealer does not have obligation to guarantee the working order of your car, all the more since STA inspection has been done. accident car also kenah 'A' grading from STA, if STA give 'B' grading for the gearbox, this car cannot even buy leow.

most dealers will not even give a hoot abt helping you repair, this dealer quite good willing to bear half. your fren shld be laughing his way to the bank, not complaining. if other dealer, they will send to their own workshop and then claim that "nothing wrong", normal operation syndrome. this kind of comment most used by AD.

given the circumstances of the case, i will give a thumbs up to the dealer. this only proves that lakeview is indeed a good dealer to buy car from.

i am not related to them by the way

Twincharged

I thought STA give B means its quite bad already. My previous car got into two serious rear end accidents and shock absorbers leaking abit and the exhaust got hole also can get B.

Seem like grade B is not really what grade B suppose to be..

I understd they have grades A, B, C and D. C is something like needs repair, then D is to be replaced...

No-one to blame. I would say that its your friend's "bad luck" to get this car.

I'm sure he test-drove the car before buying. No problem with the gearbox then, else he would not have bought it.

After he buy, you cannot blame the dealer for the gearbox fault since at the point of purchase, it was working perfectly.

An offer to pay half the cost of repairs is like a deal from heaven man. Esp when the cost of repairs is $3,000, as verfied by a 3rd party, which is autosaver.

I believe that salesman only earns $300~$500.

What do you expect them to do? They are really KIND ENOUGH to absorb 50% of repairs.

Neverless, it your sales name with Jxxxn?

Gearbox may fail anytime and not wrong with STA reports.

Just unlucky I suppose.

Well we all know buying of 2nd hand goods is caveat emptor. However do not forgetting that we are the comsumers. I would have agreed that LV is an excellent dealer if they were to take full responsible. Anyway just my personal view.

If STA has given the transmission a grade B, I would not have bought the car. So many Latios in the used market.

Also, the dealer is willing to bear all the repair cost is not bad liao. If other dealers, they would have wash their hands off.

I have to agree that de dealer is not really at fault unless can be proven dat they know the problem and hide it and even so only if ur friend had asked as "caveat emptor" is if ur fren didn't ask, dealer not obliged to tell. Problem is STA side. And even so if the tester followed SOP, then lan lan also. Moreover, when buying used item, there is always a chance dat it is not tip top. Even new cars are known to have problems. My fren bought a 3yr old 3 series BMW that had only 15,000km mileage from performance motor used division which is supposed to have undergone 72 pt check yet within the second week, one of the ignition coil spoil. of course buying from PPSL means got warranty but the point is dat for such a low mileage premium car dat undergone checks by the AD also can spoil.

You have to remember you are buying a used car. Not a new car. There's no guarantee as such. When you sell your used car to dealer, do you hand it over in tip-top condition? Do you disclose all facts and problems about the car? The dealer only takes over the car and sell to the next party. They will only touch up and ensure the car is in saleable condition. You surely don't expect them to change a brand new gearbox just to sell the car to you.

This is the risk with buying 2nd hand car. Want warranty want no problem buy 1st hand. If the problem is minor, just live with it.
