Need help from fellow forumers. I'm going to tokyo on the 1st of Dec for the first time for business. Company just told me this morning.

And since i can ask my family to come along, the wife and daughter will be joining me on the 5th Dec and spending 9 days with them there.

I am thinking of spending 2 days in Disneyland for my daughter and the most of the other 7 days in Tokyo and surroundings.

The wife wants to go to Hakone. Any recommendations for accomodation in Hakone. The wife wants to spend a night in one of the ryokans. Need info on ryokans.

Also thought of a place that I can bring my daughter to see and touch snow. Any place that fellow forummers can recommend that is not too far from Tokyo that I can see and touch snow?

Appreciate also if any of the forummers can recommend on things to do and where to eat good Jap food in Tokyo.

Thank you very much.

Bro

I just came back from Tokyo also. Please bring more clothing as the weather might be turning cold. It was like 14 deg in the day when I was there in end december.

I also joined my HQ company trip at Hakone...we stayed in Hakone Kamon. Not bad...considered one of the better ones. But you got to be naked to join in the bath. If not, then no point going. Men and women are separated...so don't think of public bath.

Food is definitely nice in Tokyo as compared to those in Singapore...average about 15-20 for lunch.

Snow...I am not sure...maybe Hokkaido...or another polace near Tokyo like 5 hrs drive away where my colleague is planning to go for his snowboarding trip in Dec too.

You can consider Hakone Yumoto. Journey will be start from Ueno station look for "Romance train" to Hakone Yumoto.

Browse your hotel or ryokan from rakuten travel. http://travel.rakuten.co.jp/en/.

To add on...from Tokyo...you can take the train to Odawara then take local train to Hakone Yumoto then take bus to Hakone Kamon. Quite easy to go lah.

After hot spring then go eat dinner then drink sake then hot spring again then before finishing the night, you can go to a nearby shop to eat ramen. It is considered a complete routine.

to Hakone, buy the freepass, where the ticket include unlimited rides on local trains, cable cars, buses, and Odakyu trains from/to Tokyo. see this link for the mode of transports included:

I stayed in Super hotel, clean and cheap but a bit far from Gotemba town, taxis are easy to get and closer to the outlet --> your wife will be very very happy [laugh]

For disneyland/sea, 1 day is not enough for each if with kids as there are always queue for everything!

Wow... got really good tips from all of you.

Thank you very much.

By the way, where is the outlet? And what do they have there? Is it like the factory outlets in LA?

Thank you everyone.

I will have 2 luggage to drag. Will it be tough to go on the Hakone trains and buses to the hotel?

yes, Gotemba factory outlet are like those outlets in the US.

i suggest you take time to go around Hakone with the bus/train/boat rides included in the freepass, there are so many things to see in that area. Will you return to Tokyo for hotel stay after Hakone? I left my big luggage at the next Tokyo hotel before going to Hakone, just bring enough clothing for the 2-3 days you will spend there. Then return to Tokyo pick up the luggage and check in the hotel.

i Just got back from Tokyo last week.

Day 1 and Day 2 i spent in Tokyo itself, going to Shinkuju, Shibuya, Ueno park etc....mainly shopping

Day 3 i went to Disney land. You may want to split the 2 days into Disneyland and Disneysea. They are beside one another..

Day 4 to 6, i went to Hakone and Mt Fuji.

For Ryokans, i stayed at Sunnide Resort near Mt Fuji. Its expensive but its nice. I tried out for 1 day just for the experience. You should get either the Hakone Freepass or the Fuji-Hakone Freepass. It depends on whether you want to go to Mt Fuji or not.

You should most probably see snow when you go up to Mt Fuji by bus.

But i strongly advise you not to spend so many days in Tokyo. Go to Hokkaido. It is really much nicer. Domestic flight only ard 100 over dollars only.

There's a town nearby which I stayed over for Christmas last year. Its called Nikko and its about 1.5 hours outside of Tokyo. You migh get snow there....... but what I experienced was just fallen snow (about 1 foot deep) in the park. Didn't manage to experience snowing itself. Nice laid back town...... there's theme parks nearby and the waterfall.....

Hokkaido should be another trip by itself and now is very cold, Japan has so much to see and do [laugh]
