Performance Tyres/Tires must be quiet and comfortable?

Hi all,

When I was reading tyres/tires review/feedback both in MCF and other websites, I realized that many drivers who opted for performance tyres are actually very concern about road noise and comfort. Tread wear is another thing but to lesser extent.

Aren't low profile and performance tyres supposedly to be noiser? So if we buy performance tires, they must also be quiet and comfortable?

Sometimes I wonder if this has something to do with the car insulation but apparently, these folks are driving some premium and supposedly heavy conti made who made the most "noise" [laugh].

What do you guys think?

Regards,

You really thought so? I'm of the opinion that priority should be given to road handling/holding in both dry and wet condition. I saw some comments like, "The dry and wet grip damn fantastic but it is noisy. I will not buy again.".

Do the majority of drivers on our roads ever take their driving to the extent where they can fully utilize all available grip? Tyre grip is one thing, driver skill is another, most of the time when people tell me their 'tyres no grip' I am often rather skeptical, because I believe it is more a function of their driving, eg improper/late braking, incorrect weight shifting, inappropriate gearing, lousy driving lines, etc than the actual tyre grip. [laugh]

Seriously, do cars like Altis need high spec tyres like the Potenza REs, CSC, PS3, F1 Asymm, Proxes, etc? <_<

On my old Sunny, i use 15" Hankook V8. It improves slightly some of the flaws of the car, like light steering, high speed instability.

Seriously ... CSC3 is not bad for comfort and performance. Next tire i would like to try is PS-3. However, these tires will cost more. There is no free lunch .... cheap and good ... not easy to find.

  • ai pi ai ci ai tua liap nee is one thing, related to the topic but not the entire picture.

  • car insulation is one thing, related to the topic but not the entire picture.

  • road surface is one thing, related to the topic but not the entire picture. for example, PIE towards Jurong, just outside CJC / old policy academy - road damn noisy but once you hit the curve, all noise gone.

  • sg drivers with typical sg car (corolla, altis, sunny, etc) is one thing, related to the topic but not the entire picture. cannot say such typical drivers don't need "performance" tires.

where i'm coming from is this:

my fd1 civic is known to sux at car insulation - keep this in mind when reading this post.

with the stock tires, there's this curve (PIE towards jurong, curve towards right @ beauty world area) that i can only manage 92km/h before i feel the car will topple over. that's the limit.

i change to hankook v12 evo, bec it's cost-effective "performance" tires. i can now hit 108km/h at the same curve before i get the same feeling. performance has increased.

noise, same stretch outside CJC same noise. otherwise is the v12 evo quieter? maybe yes maybe no. but since increase in performance didn't have a similar increase in noise, i happy already.

do i feel i should change out my stock tires, definitely YES!

do i feel v12 evo is a good buy at its price, definitely YES!

just turn on yr radio volumn higher and it will cover all noise.

PS3 is almost 50% more expensive than my current German Eagle F1 asymetric.

so far, my F1 after running in 10K km, the noise is still acceptable.
