As above which is better

If your needs doesn't require heavy duty stuff the air is fine. On the other hand if you're going to be doing for e.g. lots of photo/video editing, get a macbook pro.

Good for what?

I say go for the lightest unit.

Power is nothing if you only surf porn and do MSN/YM.

Used to be people use it to do Autocad or Photoshop, etc. But nowadays, even low end computers are powerful enough to handle these software.

I would like to own a light laptop, so that traveling is convenient and light.

1. You need either ms office for Mac to run words, excel, etc..... Or apple's iWork suite's numbers, pages and keynote (equivalent to microsoft's excel, words and PowerPoint) or you can install windows 7 in boot camp so that you can dual boot either in Mac OS x or windows 7. Or you can install parallel or vmware.

2. Powerful enough to do all the above and more. Mac OS x is a 64 bit OS ... Hence is faster.

Advantage

VMware or Parallel allows you to run Mac and Windows applications simultaneously without having to reboot .... all within Mac OS environment.

Bootcamp is basically partitioning HDD into 2 to boot the OS (whether Mac OS X or Windows) separately. Mac OS cannot cannot run Windows applications, and vice versa at the same time.

Disadvantage

VMWare is virtualization of Windows OS. Hence performance is not the same as if it is boot up as Windows. Some quoted in virtual mode, Windows 7 is only 70% performance of full boot up.

Advantage-disadvantage aside, trade off is always there if you want best of both world. depends on what you can live with.

Why must things be more expensive in Singapore these days? Even without your DBS special price, Mac already cheaper in JB. Moreover all Mac are made in China these days.

I bought the MacBook Pro because I can't get pass that the Air is using the older intel chip. If the Air is using at least an i3 then I will consider.

Both MacBook and MacBook air due for update soon, at least i3 processor and Thunderbolt. Latest MBP now is a good buy.
