Felipe 3rd Gear May 4, 2011 Share May 4, 2011 well, Singaporeans, for every 20,000 attending a rally, another 100,000 are in their homes minding their own business. Singaporeans don't care what they are missing out. Does a bird which is fed in a cage care for what other carefree birds do beyond the cage? Don't look too much on the bright side so that you won't be too disappointed when things don't turn out well. Many individuals are still voting because of the beauty of their estates. Many are voting simply because their families live in relative comfort. We are far from a mature democracy when despite almost half a century of parliament, ppl still need to be told they have a right to vote. The reality is historically, no city state has ever lasted. Even more so, no-one-man show in whatever form, ever lasted. But many don't see it. Personally, i don't have kids (i won't want to as long as i'm living in this land) so it's not as big a deal. It's their kids who'll face the high cost of living. It's their kids who'll bear the burden of future property prices and medical bills. There's a saying that goes one can suffer, but no one can ever bear to see his child suffer. For this reason, very few want to bring lives into a world (country i mean) where there are kids killing themselves and where there are not one, but two gambling dens within such a small living area. So go ahead and vote from the comfort of your lives and bear the fruits of your choice years down the road. History does not lie. History only repeats itself. Just as a fellow Singaporean, i can only advice you to be prepared to have a way out when the situation calls for it. Like in the other thread, there's no animosity from any of us towards the regime supporters. We only speak as concerned fellow countrymen. Because at the end of the day, it's not economic growth that will sustain a nation, but its values of justice and equality. May whoever read this vote with this perspective in mind. That is why I am torn between letting my child suffer with extremely high cost of living later or not having a child at all as a mercy. Of course the best is to migrate and have a child there, but currently I don't have this luxury.
