FYI there is no phrase such as "CONTINENTAL-CAR"... it's a Singapore base lingual that define all non asia (jap/kor/my/china) cars. that's what I'm trying to point out.

A overatted over used phrase if I may rectify... :P

ok I think I OT too much liao.. haha

You are right to say that.

Like what some brothers here have mentioned, Ford Motor Company originated from the United States. However, we can categories the company's product range into four region, mainly North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and lastly Australia. If you look closely, you can see that some Ford models sold in some countries but not in others. Ford design and sell their vehicle accordingly to geographic demand and preference. Even in the same region, you can see the model in different design. Try google Mondeo and Metrostar. But Ford is moving into standardising some of the models globally starting with the new Focus (They tried it before but failed) to boost profitability. The current Ford vehicles we getting locally mainly are Europe spec model (smaller engine capacity, sharper handling etc) except the Asian built Everest. Hope you can learn more about the brand which introduced methods for large-scale manufacturing of cars. :D Ford is way underated in Singapore IMO. Which is a shame.

Well, this is something new that I read today.

VW in Europe is like Ford in Britain. Its a working man's car, much like a toyota, only in Singapore do we see VW as a "premium conti." The wonders of advertising.

BTW, VW tried to introduce the same suspension found on the Focus for years, something called te control blade system. One of the reasons why the Mark 5 Golf transitioned to the Mark 6 Golf so quickly was because the doors had to be manually fitted because of the way they tried to copy the suspension setup, and as a result of the extra engineering, brought production costs up beyond what was viable. Do some research and read...

Branding history? erm, only in Singapore dude. Again, do some research

hee hee like that LEXUS American?? [smash][lipsrsealed] "luxury exports to the U.S."

Purpose of Lexus is to have a premium Toyota in US. marketing but still Jap thus whether a Euro Ford also marketing and still American for ford in my opinion

BTW Ford also only listed in NYSE

In short I think car origin are heritage related if not MINI and Roll Royce Germany liao no more british. think abt it UK got not much car brand left Jag and landrover Indian :o

lotus Malaysia..... Aston Martin was once Ford, yet James Bonds still use and love it every movie [;)]

All Chill yeah [drivingcar]

I agree that the parent company is American, and either way you call it, American or conti, i dun really care cause its really a very good car to drive. The fords in Europe are different from the ones in the U.S. though. Just try driving a american ford sedan and maybe the ford focus. The difference is stark and really obvious.

I dunno about the current Ford but in the late 80s, 90s and early 00s, Ford to me is JAPANESE.

I guess during that time Ford and Mazda had a close relationship and built Models in Asia Pac using shared Chassis during those times.

The Chassis, engine and gearbox are all the same for both Mazda and Ford models, in fact in at some point of time the even the car body of the both brands are similar.

Ford Laser/Escort = Mazda 323

Ford Telstar/Mondeo = Mazda 626

I remember during those times, ford and mazda parts are interchangable. Those Ford owners would buy mazda parts for servicing as they were cheaper.

Even until now, this stigma is still in me at Ford are basically a more luxury Mazda....even though I know I'm wrong....but it was truth 10 - 20 years back

you are right... the laser and even the telstar were jap. even the laser at one point was built in Philipines. No more of that in SG though, although this does show the multi national reach of car companies these days.

nope not at all but at 145k for a for a ecoboost 2.0 is overpriced....top up about 20k more...get a mercedes c180 blue efficiency for 165k

It really depends what you are looking for.

C-class to me is v nice. but the c180 is smaller than the mondeo and and not to mention 47bhp LESS.

You can argue that Merc will always be better than Ford. I would agree with you on that. BUT is it more value for $?

Jetta cheaper I agree. Better? IMO, its not a fair comparison.

BUT if you think Ford is overpriced which you obviously do then VW is even more overpriced.

there is no way a mondeo is comparable to passat. don't kid yourself.

mondeo is a mazda 6.

Ford is not the quality standards of those brands from continental Europe, maybe catching up w Opel.

Besides Ford is way overpriced. A Jap car offers more value in comparison.

Jap offers more value? in terms of what? and comparing which jap model to the mondeo? camry? accord?
