If I rent a car in US for a couple of days, will the rental companies provide the motor insurance too? They do not seem to offer insurance for high performance vehicles like Ferrari but states that insurance is compulsory. How to get coverage then? I dun have this problem for Australia.

Thanks.

basic they will cover but some dun even cover windscreen and very high excess, you also need to pay additional premium to reduce the excess to zero in Australia.

Hypersonic

Please buy full insurance from the rental companies, don't skim on it.

My rental car in Canada got into an accident 2 years ago when I went there. In Ontario, you claim from your own insurance instead of the other party. The other party banged me from behind and yet I have to claim my own insurance...knn. In the end, had to pay C$500 to the rental company as excess. I didn't buy the zero excess insurance.

Lucky my travel insurance can claim back S$500 so not that bad but still suay of course. Waste my holiday time going to their version of IDAC to take pics and file report.

Do remember to buy travel insurance which has rental vehicle excess too.

2 years ago, 1 of my good friend on business trip in US got into a car accident

and his medical bill came up to 60K USD. Luckily, his company bought all the

necessary insurance for him.

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) will allow you to walk away, while the rental company handles the rest. If you have a friend in the U.S. who is willing to help, get him to book and pay with his AMEX and this is included FREE with your car rental.
