Is it a practical car? ie. interior space/ safety/ reliability Thanks Rented one for a week in Oz a few years back. The 1.5 gen 2 model. Very easy to live wif and surprisingly roomy for its size tho it doesn't realli encourages u to drive it hard. Which is ok as the novelty is that you'll find yourself driving a bit differently and try to maximise the mileage and batt charge via the on-board display. It's ok for a week or so if the novelty will wear out after a while. But what i liked most abt any hybrid car - total silence during idle.

SimonTan 2nd Gear August 24, 2011 Share August 24, 2011 1.8 engine? My honda jazz is only 1.4, and it's sufficient already. Why get a big engine Prius? When many people are driving 1.6 below cars happily. No meaning. To save fuel you need a hybrid with big engine?

Picanto 3rd Gear August 24, 2011 Share August 24, 2011 Thanks bro. Any issues with reliability? Breakdowns? Costly parts or maintenance? parts will be more expensive than a normal car. as its a hybrid, not many WS can service it well. be prepared to spend much much more if it goes haywire

Maybe if things do go wrong, it will be more difficult for normal mechanic to diagnose. I regret not buying one when the price was $84k during my test drive. Worry this worry that ... now no chance to buy liao 'cos it's so expensive. At this price, there are lots of delicious cars to consider.

Melvinyuen 2nd Gear August 25, 2011 Share August 25, 2011 parts will be more expensive than a normal car. as its a hybrid, not many WS can service it well. be prepared to spend much much more if it goes haywire Hi put it that way. You are not a Hybrid driver. hahahha Parts are not expensive. The Prius is just a Toyota Corolla engine and it also comes with another additional hybrid electric motor and metal hydride battery. Servicing is as per normal car servicing. Till now the car had no breakdowns with my car from new till now. I am already hitting 80,000km soon and still no problems. As long as you take care of the car , regular servicings, its a hassle free car. The battery and hybrid motor will last at least so call 10 years depending on the mileage of the car. In US, i can see 150,000miles or even 200,000miles and still there is no problems. I service my car normally at 12,000 to 15,000km just like a normal car. no special parts needed as its a Toyota... Oh yes servicing can be counted as a small car..... [:p] cos some will ask how many cc is the car mah hahahah then the package is more expensive if the car is 1600cc and above. well its a 1497cc. what more you can ask for?? enjoy~~~~~
Melvinyuen 2nd Gear August 25, 2011 Share August 25, 2011 1.8 engine? My honda jazz is only 1.4, and it's sufficient already. Why get a big engine Prius? When many people are driving 1.6 below cars happily. No meaning. To save fuel you need a hybrid with big engine? Er my model is 1.5. Well you must understand why they upgrade the car to 1.8. Its because of the bigger body of the car and its underpower well your jazz is small so its sufficient for my smaller prius 1.5 is good enought and with the hybrid engine its a 2.0 car [cool]

Main reason why they use more powerful engine is it improves highway efficiency. More power means = more torque = lower avg rpm = lesser fuel consumption. Wishcumstrue 6th Gear September 1, 2011 Share September 1, 2011 fc good for mostly city usage? for mostly highway drive, not much different? Hybrid excel in city traffic. That is where it has the edge. For Hi-way. the free-flow traffic already present the ideal efficient condition for normal ICE. In fact, even with ICE, you can try hypermil to improve FC. ↡ Advertisement
