Are those waist pouch that tucked under the clothing feasible ? Any good advise ? I guess best solution is dont put all your money at one place....buy a money belt, photocopy the front and back of your passport and fold 1 or 2 bigger US$....just in case you really really suay and got all your belongings stolen ....at least you can use the money to go some where to get new travel documents ready.....the rest i guess is travel light while out shopping ( less things to worry) on the streets and be vigilant loh. No harm to be more vigilant against pickpockets. Btw, hotel safe also not that secure. Try see if you enter 6 "0"s ie 000000 to see if they open other than the password key in. Saw this on youtube. Jchuacl Clutched October 19, 2011 Share October 19, 2011 If you see gypsies consisting of pregnant women and small kids, u better avoid walking into them because they are the professionals and are very quick. Split your money into several places and never keep in your back pockets. Plenty of the gypsies in Italy, France and Spain, so watch out. I didn't use any specific pouch but just keep my eyes on my surroundings, and did not encounter any incident for a month's trip to Europe. SimonTan 2nd Gear October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 (edited) Keep a Cheap decoy wallet with just enough money for daily spending. If kena knife rob, just open the wallet show got some money inside and throw it at the robber, and run for your life. Keep the other important credit cards and monies inside your waist belt or underwear. Edited October 20, 2011 by SimonTan
Untitled-Resident Neutral Newbie October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 Hey fellas, I will be travelling to Europe at end Nov and will be heading to Italy. Frens & colls told me that there are alot of professional pickpockets at Europe who could easily slit jeans pocket and steal $$ without you knowing it. Are those waist pouch that tucked under the clothing feasible ? Any good advise ? When in crowded area (in metro especially) always be careful of your belongings. Touch and feel them time to time. Not only the stuff in your pockets/ money belts but your carried bags or luggage. When I first went Milan, I met a 'ghost'. Took metro and was walking up to the Duomo, suddenly I saw a shadow flashed in front of the crowds ahead me. A few seconds later, I heard, "Police! Police!" and chasing started. An asian guy was snatched of his belonging unknowingly (at least for a moment). Talk about eye opening. Also, when buying metro tickets there will be gypsies standing by each vending machine to assist you (the tourist). They'll ask you your destination and press for you. Once done, they'll pick up and pass you the tickets and keep whatever change (literally). Tip is just to ignore them and there are menu available in English. If they pester you, you can approach their Polizia on ground level. Out of tourist attractions, Milan is like a slump. The streets are dirty, uneven paths & it stinks. It is worse than our neighbouring country. But having said that, it is still a shopping paradise for branded stuff. Rome is slightly better. Remember to visit Leaning Tower of Pisa!! Virus 2nd Gear October 20, 2011 Share October 20, 2011 Try to keep your money/credit card separately in different place. As least you don't lost everything when pick pocket. I've use the 'Leg safe' and transfer to wallet if money in wallet run low. http://www.kevincoffee.com/money/guide_to_...and_pouches.htm My friend was pickpocket at Nice-France. A group of children crowd around him and his wife making noise, pulling them. One hold a map close to them and my friend try to push it away The children ran away harassing. The next minute my friend discovered his waist pouch was zip open and wallet gone. And no joke, the incident all happen within 10 secs. These people are professional. Anyway, just be alert during such situation and enjoy your trip.
Rollagt 5th Gear October 20, 2011 Author Share October 20, 2011 Thanks for all good advise ! Will be ard winter when I reach there, so I guess if I wear my normal sling bag then follow by jacket should be safe right since its kept out of sight. My concerns is those syndicate pickpockets, one distract you, one do the deed, if caught another come harass you and block you from chasing. Got a fren kanna before a "poliza" ask him for his PP and wallet for inspection, "poliza" look thru his wallet infront of him and then return him. After that, he ponder usually poliza will only check PP what for check wallet..he check his wallet, 50 Euro gone. Will be heading to switerland, italy and france thou. David999 Neutral Newbie October 30, 2011 Share October 30, 2011 If you would like additional information about how to avoid pickpockets as well as watching some videos of actual thieves stealing from tourists - the website below has a variety of pages listed. Now most of the pickpocket sections are listed for Italy, France, and Spain, go to those section and reads the posts and watch the videos as they are the same scams used around the world.. Hope it helps someone - By the way, the website is run by the same guy who is listed in the website above - Kevin Coffey, he just expanded the section on another website. Hope it helps!
