Unlike the perception that suicides are because of the lack of courage to continue living life, it often takes great courage to overcome the fear of death and choose to end one's life. Usually this is because the person has come to a situation where living feels worse than death itself. Whichever the case, this trend seems likely to continue in the near term. I believe it could also be due to recurrent streaks of "bad luck" - things don't seem to go right, or go wrong perpetually. The person may then feel that his "bad luck" will inevitably and inadvertently continue, and the only way to break the 'chain' reaction is simply to... end his life.
