A highly paid couple filed for divorce, ending their 17 year marriage. The husband refuses to pay the nominal $1 alimony because the wife earn much more than him.

Wife is 43yo, currently a senior vice president earning more than $10,000. Husband is 40yo, a director earning 5k+.

According to the court, the wife's total assets is at 620k while the husband has only 250k. The husband also need to pay a $1850 per month loan and has only $100 left in his bank.

Due to the wife's much higher earning capacity, the husband has applied to not pay the $1 alimony, but his request has been rejected by the courts.

The judge felt that in the 17years of marriage, the wife has definitely contributed something, and therefore is entitled to alimony.

The wife alleged that the husband is not good with money, and had incurred a debt of over 100k. She also had to loan him 30k for his car loan, family tours and feng shui consultation.

The guy does not want to be trapped in the future to pay more?

[confused]

Take it this way,

If they live to 1mil years,he will have to pay 12mil dollars. That's a sum.

the reason to ask for $1 alimony is to keep open the option to ask for more alimony in future.

if the wife agrees to give up even the $1 alimony, then in essence, she gives up all future right to ask for more as she has waive the right and intention to ever ask for alimony.

when the ex-wife decides to ask for $1 alimony, it is a symbol. of course the wife does not need $1 monthly as alimony. it is to keep the option open as it will be the case, when she decides to ask for more in future, that she has been entitled to alimony all along and now that her or her ex-husband's circumstances have changed (e.g. she needs more money or the ex-husband has become richer and can afford to pay more), she is entitled to more alimony.

$1 a month for 17 years of free sex!! that is cheap!

Obviously from this case, she is not even worth $1.

I always find Women at the Top behaving more like a Man - The high a Woman goes, the more manly she becomes.

No wonder those successful women tend to be single...
