SO as long the car more then 50k is grade B, NO wonder ppl alway go change their mileage. To obtain grade A.

STA can check agaist this a not?
If anyone can have it, I don't want it.

i think B is a common grade....it's not easy for used cars with some years n mileage to get A.

IMHO, STA gradings are fairly useless. Because:

- they're only competent to assess B&B cars. But these cars are generally problem free (especially the Japanese sort) anyway. If they're really CMI a once-over will usually reveal a glaring problem.

- for niche/sports cars, I would never accept anything less than a specialist inspection. Meaning an inspection by a trusted workshop that has been dealing with that marque for years and has a good reputation.

So, either way, bypass STA and go straight for an inspection, whether it be by your routine mechanic (for bread and butter cars) or by a specialist mechanic (for niche cars).

you all must understand what are STA or Viacom or even AA inspections all about first.

Mainly they look out for accidents, that impact the car chassis and engine. The inspection does not look at wear and tear. example, they won't look for gearbox failure, air con failure, etc, which i dont blame them, because these parts are hard to detect. If the ex owner never change gear box oil for 100,000km, who can tell???

so manage your own expectation. the inspections are not full proof.

Generally, it's the age and distance clocked by the car that determines the grade given by STA.
For a 3-year old ride, it will be a minimum of grade B and above
B for normal wear and tear of moving parts(mostly) but if there the chassis has been damaged, it can be anything from C, D etc

Vicom & STA inspection serve as just a general guide.
Best is to get your trusted mechanic to check the essential parts if you can get him/her. laugh.gif

Take the gradings with a pinch of salt. How can they be sure of the conditions in just an hour? For peace of mind that the car has not been in a major accident or something but nothing can be done regarding wear and tear. Luck plays a part when u buy a used car
