Damn, quick lup stage 1 let me test drive.

Saw a lot of Rocs on the road and they are quick indeed. I only can envy la.. seriously. [:/]

Sometimes it is the driver regardless of factory setting or stage 1 or customized tuning.

TS, to what I know, VW 7 sp DSG has 2 problems.

1. MU problem - there is a manufacturing defect for cars manufactured between mid 2009 to mid 2010.

Those who faced problem and was towed back to VCS had the MU changed and problem rectified. Of course, if you are preparing to buy a preown Jetta, maybe you hv to check if they have changed the MU. Thsis problem has been rectified.

2. Juddering issue - VCS said that this cud be due to clutch wearing off. They changed the clutch for those who complained. Some forumers said that problem goes for few months but came back again. Of course for some, it never come back. Some claim that problem cud be due to gear changing too fast from d1 to d2. When you do not step enough on the petrol pedal, the speed change is too slow causing it to judder like a manual gear change. Some people reported this problem at 10k, while others at 30k or 50k. Some claimed that DSG remap to slow the gear change can solve the problem... not sure though.

+1. My 2009 Golf 1.4 had the MU replaced even though it didn't break down. Clutch juddering, had it slightly for a while but went away and no problems at all. Now my car is nearing 60,000km and still superbly powerful and smooth. Never regretted one day buying this car.

Basically got VW sell so many cars, out of the 1000 cars they sell, 10 got problems, 990 don't have problems, the 10 will kpkb and the 990 will keep quiet, so gives the impression that they suckz, and many VW drivers go to the workshop every 1 or 2 months for mods....

If this is true then i dun mind to take a 1% risk, i dun even mind a 5% risk. But i am afraid it is sell 1000 cars, 100 will have problems in the first 3 mths, another 200 in the next 3 mths, another 200 in the next 6mths so all in all, within first year 50% casualty....i m not saying this is the case.

Err I cannot guarantee you la, so far my DSG seems okie, dry clutch one too, I think you will enjoy the car...get the jetta sports....3 years warranty no worries....anything go back to AD and complain until they extend warranty to 5 years

Hi

Been contemplating getting a VW jetta but quite concerned about how serious the 7 speed DSG problem is. I would say its the only thing stopping me now. VW sales guy said its those ppl who mod (chip) the car. But what i heard from others is even not chipped also have problem. Every 1 or 2 month have to visit workshop. And their after sales is not fantastic either.

Anyone here can share?

Drive the dry clutch 7 speed dog for the past 1.5 year..

1 major problem -----> no turbo..

Other than that, prepare to wait 1 to 2 months for simple oil change servicing..

So please don't buy.. If not I have to wait up to 3 months for servicing..

sat in a friend 2011 1.8 T skoda superb. oh man brute force when he accelerated! It is similar to a 2.4 litre car... No mods. The wonders of technology. by the way it's much more quieter than my wife's 2011 A4. I might change to that car once my car hits 5 year old. if I m not wrong it is a 7 speed dsg. Oh it is very well put together as well. I m very very surpise skoda can produce such a good car. But the interior looks like a 2010 VW passat, weird. It even has park assist, umber cool to see it in action.

That one I also dunno. But VW buyers should drop by Skoda and take a look. They offer more toys in the cars too. Pity the exterior takes abit of getting used to. [laugh][laugh]

Err...Where got other options that can give 160/240 @ < $130k?

Peugeot 308? I believe cheaper than Jetta but also have some reliability issue and not sure whether discon in SG cos go to sgcarmart under new cars -> peugeot, they only list 308cc, no 308. Maybe can consider 3008, only slightly more ex than jetta but again, have some reliability issue.

Citreon DS3 THP dun like and i want 4 door, tired of 2 door liao. Opel not even listed anymore. Skoda, dun like.

I saw in the papers recently for the Mondeo, going at around 138k+
