what for need inverter?

Convert DC12v to AC 220V then back to DC about 18votts? waste of energy leh. maybe buy those variable DC to DC vott converter. Can convert 12V to between 1.5v - 24 v

U got a practical point here.

The next better option is to get the Belkin duo power source. Invertor

it can convert. 12/24v. DC and 230v AC into various lower DC voltages.

agree with above. buy a DC-DC Converter better than getting DC-AC then use your power AC-DC again. Watch out for a few things:

1) Battery voltage when car is running is usually 14V, so make sure your DC-DC can accept between 12-14V DC input

2) Check the laptop charger as to what voltage and power is required, and buy the DC-DC Converter accordingly. Some laptop chargers are 19V, some are 12V (12V then no need DC-DC already haha). Buy the DC-DC Converter with a bit more power than your laptop charger, so that it wont overheat and burn. For e.g. my laptop charger says 19V 4.62A. So I should be looking for a DC-DC that is 12V (12-14.4V) input and 19V output, ~100W (19*5).

3) Check your cig lighter fuse, make sure it's not lower than the current you require. Mine is 15A (Honda, and so should many others too), so it's usually ok. Better be safe than sorry. If cannot, then connect directly to battery and put 1 fuse there should be fine.

This would be much more efficiently and simply implemented by giving 12V from the battery straight to the device without all these conversions. If your device is just stepping 120V down to 12VDC inside its power supply, bypass the power supply. If it is actually using 120V (highly doubtful) then replace it for a 12V version.
