Blue850r Clutched February 20, 2012 Share February 20, 2012 My friend has a 2007 Toyota Estima 2.4. Whenever, he revs the engine hard, there is a burn smell coming into the cabin. The smell could be from exhaust. He have changed the cabin filter but did not cure this problem. Couldn't see any exhaust leak either. What could be the cause? Anyone with such experience? ↡ Advertisement

Blue850r Clutched February 20, 2012 Author Share February 20, 2012 Could it be from door seals. Sometimes follow bus also can smell the fumes. It is like the aircon recirculation button not set to close.
Kb27 Supersonic February 20, 2012 Share February 20, 2012 It could be the vent is not completely closed, even though it's at recirc. I know one car weakness due to a cable not installed properly and it would not closed the vent completely.
5936 1st Gear February 20, 2012 Share February 20, 2012 (edited) I am driving one '08 estima, hybrid model Like any other cars, there are a few drain pots scattered around the floorpan. But these are covered by rubber plugs. other then these holes, cable glands and door seals, there are no pipes feeding through the floor. One query if there is new application of undercoats or paint near or on exhaust. I dont have this burn smell issue. Marcostan 4th Gear February 20, 2012 Share February 20, 2012 (edited) Dun worry, my 2007 Rav4 also have the same smell after hard revs. All my friends' Rav4 have, but the smell will eventually gone. For my case the smell never happen after I clocked 70K mileage. Also, I very sure the smell is not because of incomplete closure of the vents. There's no smell even I travel right behind any heavy black smoke lorry. Edited February 20, 2012 by Marcostan ↡ Advertisement
