Can rear spoiler accommodate weight of bike rack?

Folks,
Has anyone mounted a bike rack onto the hatchback that has a rear spoiler (no gap between)? Meaning that the bike rack basically ledges onto the rear trunk and the pivoting straps (of the rack) basically runs along the spoiler surface..

My wife is driving a latio sports hatch that comes with a rear spoiler. The spoiler does protrudes out a fair bit.
We will like to mount our Saris bone bike rack onto the rear, but afraid that the spoiler can't take the weight of two bikes. The spoiler does not have a gaps between to allow the rack straps to follow the contours of the car rear.

Thanks.

Neutral Newbie

Hi Guys,

I am also facing this issue. Mine is an ody with rear spoiler protruding behind from the metal body slightly. Meaning if I were to put the saris bone strap over it, there will be some stress at this end of the spoiler.

I spoke to the vendor before purchasing the saris bone 3 with a hugger. This hugger is like a dumbell shape which will reduce the stress on the spoiler as claim by the vendor. True?

Haven't tried it out yet as stocks only available tomorrow. Hopefully no issues to the spoiler. Any helpful bros here can advice?

Thanks.

no, not safe, as spoiler can get loose and drop of.

yes, the Saris dealer told me the same too.

For Odyssey - suggest roof rack.

This car is ideal as its height is already low (around 1.5 i think),

1) so with roof bike carriers, still no problems entering buildings with height restriction eg 1.8m, unlike taller mpvs.

2) not so difficult to load/unload bikes
