Icebird Clutched September 1, 2015 Share September 1, 2015 Q7 going for 330k around after discount so how can volvo going at same price... i believe if you sincerely you can get at 280k.. they sure sell Someone mentioned in another thread that you can get the T5 variant now for 280k. If you are referring to that, then it is not really the price coming down but weaker engine? ↡ Advertisement
7hm Turbocharged September 1, 2015 Share September 1, 2015 Major drawback .. I believe it is more than 2 ton heavy. Heavier than Hilux Diesel Turbo. Volvos tend to be seriously heavy. Probably since they typically build out of crazy solid steel.

StefanK Supercharged October 20, 2015 Share October 20, 2015 so bad, Excludes the All-new XC90 leh I want new XC90 Maybe put the deposit for, say.... an XC60. Then when you are in Sweden and they present you with an XC60, tell them you misread 60 for 90 and wish to change. Top up the difference only mah.
ins1dious Turbocharged October 21, 2015 Share October 21, 2015 Over the weekend... I checked out both the new XC90 as well as the new Q7... didn't have a chance to drive due to time issues... Initial impressions... Outside: The XC90 is quite the looker. Familiar shape but fresh looking. Definitely know its modern. The Q7 is still the dog's breakfast... but that grill has grown on me. Not so bad with the S-Line trim. Inside: I do like the clean look of the XC90... but disappointed a bit with some of the fittings... the trim at the centre console was coming off... maybe it's 'cos it was the unit on display and was abused by all and sundry... still doesn't bode well. Lovely infotainment! Familiar cabin in the Q7. As a current user... everything in the new car made immediate sense to me... and this is subjective... but the buttons and the damping just felt slightly better in my hands. Both cars support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay so no worries there. Cabin Space: I prefer the XC90 seats (Volvo still make some of the best seats) for the 1st two rows. The 3rd row is also wider and with a deeper footwell. The ingress is not as wide as the Q7 but the sliding seats of the XC90 is easier to move in/out off rather than this fold and raise up (its pneumatic) which gives the Q7 a slightly wider ingress. The footwell is not as deep though so when sitting in... it feels like my knee is up to my shoulders. Not a happy experience. I should try how it is in my current car... I've never sat in the 3rd row Boot: With the 3 rows up, the space of the Q7 looks slightly bigger than the XC90... but this new model is still smaller than my current car. Hmm... disappointing... Given the current pricing... and the options... I would choose the Q7 at 360k rather than the XC90 at 350k... cos I know how creamy that 3.0 V6 is... But the damn thing is smaller than my current car... so bloody disappointed.

But those headlights... woooo~! Overall very clean feel (as Swedish designs go). Interior wise, no arguments on that. For some reason, the quality of the interior is pretty much touch and go, depending on luck. Mine had the seat leather worn off in the first week. Good to hear that the 3rd seats are more spacious now, older iterations were a Soyuz space chamber for anyone >1.5M and >40kg. Come on, live a little. Drive a Volvo.

Even at current price, the XC90 is pretty good vs the Q7... my likes/dislikes were more personal/subjective anyway. They can make it a no brainer if Wearnes undercuts the German by 30k as Audi has spec'd this Q7 high.

Possible? If yes, I sign on the spot." Same as you, my liking for XC90 is more personal.

StefanK Supercharged October 21, 2015 Share October 21, 2015 So when are you getting it to replace the old war elephant? Current price of one new XC90 will allow me to purchase 2 of the old war elephants, with change. Most likely will renew another 10years.

I've got a long way to go before coming to this decision. Touch wood... thus far... my car hasn't given any troubles. It is an old model and bought nearer to EOL so I expect it's niggles should have been sorted by now. But if the choices then is the same as now... ie., this Q7 or XC90 at 350k plus... I think even I will renew the COE. The new cars are just too small to be of any use for me. And I really really really don't want to buy an Elgrand/Estima type of vehicle.
