Noisy aircon compressor

Hi all.

My car is coming to 5yrs old and the AC is getting noisy when it kicks in, I can also feel the vibration.

AC is still blowing cold air and I change the filter every year.

Was recommended to change/add aircon oil. AC system uses oil? Will the oil help? The workshop wants to charge $87 renewing aircon oil.

I thought the UV dye is used to detect leaks instead?

trusts me, it wont work.

but whether it prolongs the life of the compressor, maybe........

You can get mechanics to check magnetic clutch, and bearing. These 2 are the most common culprits.

In sg wkspa, replacing the whole compressor is the norm. But in JB, they do replqce bearing and magnetic clutch, for less than a friction of the cost. And you can also replace the compressor oil.

Could it be your engine mounts? Each time the air con kicks in, the additional load would just cause the car to vibrate. Anyway my old car has the same problem with the compressor. Im just going to use it first since its still blowing cold air albeit being rather noisy when outside. If the compressor does die and stop spinning, my car would automatically detect it and disengage it from the drive belt so there wouldnt be any damage. Ive already gotten a good secondhand one to standby. Maybe you can go the same route and just save the money and wait.

Magnetic clutch and bearings are parts mounted on the external drive shaft of compressor.

Usually with labour and parts at $100-$120.

My perodua kelisa ac compressor is spoilt. Then mechanic cut off the belting. Then the mechanic ask to change compressor which cost $500. Is the price reasonable?

Should be around that price range. Plus minus there with labours etc.

If you find the price bit high, maybe can source for 2nd hand or reconditioned set.

Hi, just got my new Toyota Harrier 2 weeks ago before CNY. Found loud noise and vibration when compressor cuts-in. Sent in to workshop for inspection however they cannot identify the issues and says that it's the new piping design issue and need to cut the "High Pressure" inlet pipe and do some modification.

Have verify with some other Harrier and confirmed that all have same design and without any noise or vibration issue. Can anyone advise and help.

Thanks in advance for any advise!
