[Help] Decide whether to change car

Hi gents,

 

Looking to seek opinions and advice whether to change cars or not.

 

Reason being is to attain lower running cost and see if i'm able to recoup some loss.

 

Currently driving a Dec 07 registered CRV 2.4 from KM. COE was about 17K then? Going to hit 100K mileage soon. No issues thus far, fully serviced on time at KM.

 

Outstanding loan left about 50+K.

 

Thinking of switching to a older used car of lower capacity etc.

 

Currently looking at something like a 2.0XT used forester; example given below.

Would like to seek your opinions and advice if it's wise to do so or to just stick with my CRV till the COE expires.

It is possible that your running costs wouldn't change as the 2 litre boxer turbo is thirsty. What you'll save on road tax you will pay on fuel.

 

Since your car is owned from new and is newer than the Forester why do you want to change to an older car with some unknowns? They both fulfill the same functions.

 

Of course, the Forester is faster and handles more car-like, but that's just about the only thing going for it.

Right now getting about 8-9km/l on the crv.

 

Hmm reason for change, maybe just to lower running costs and a change of environment?

 

Is the 2.0XT really that thirsty? Before the CRV, used to drive the 2.0NA forester.

No point... As wat macros said, u are going to get another older car which may hav unknown problem... Even if u save on running cost and even the fc is better, u might or will be facing another big headach which is maintanence and repairs...

On top of saying all tat, ya tat car may hav worse fc dan urs now (maybe same only)... So wat's the point u tell me?

If want to attain lower running cost, should not change to a 2.0L car cause i think not much difference. You should consider change to a 1.6L or lower car if you really want to save on running cost and FC.

From what I can see, our bro here is trying to realized his value. If he sells his car now, he gets back some $$. Use the $$ buy a cheaper car, and balance keep in the bank.

But, yes there are risk...2nd hand car may spend more time in the garage than on the road, also need to come down on the expectation of the ride and comfort....

To realize the money, u need to downgrade drastically.

Take into consideration the interest too. Cause for the current loan,interest is fully paid.

Now downgrade to 2.0xt...

No matter the fuel cost & running cost saved would be able to justified the deprecations loses (unless u understand the car market well).

Dont waste time. CRV is a better car to ride in. Maintainance for a NA car is easier on the pocket. Give you an analogy.

 

Now you got a wife already, but you see one widow on the street. You think this widow looks like sex-pot, good at humping, good at cooking. But you didn't realised this widow may need a Gucci bag every month as maintenance. Now, your current wife can hump, can cook. Already fulfil your desire, why commit for a Gucci bag every month? This Gucci bag can be better spend at humping outside instead of commiting full time, isn't it?

Thanks to all for your replies. Looks like the majority is against changing.

 

I gather from your replies that one of the main reasons is due to the poor choice of car selected.

 

What about downgrading to a same age (plus minus 1 year) civic 1.8 or 2.0? Does the reasoning still stand?
