Rear absorber or spring

hi,

sorry that i have to post this, seeking for some valuable advise.

my ride has turned 6.5yrs, based on current situation, unlikely to change.

i'm using 195/45/15 tire.

my absorber and spring are stock, never wanted to spend money on them.

at most, adding a stiffer on rear.

although this is my personal car, each time i ferry, go over hump or go uneven road.

the tire will hit at the wall/sock of the absorber. causing a hold in the sock

well, i can make do with the sound but sad to say, it's pissing me off lately.

especially when i thought adding a space of 5mm could solved the problem.

instead, it only worsen

i read somewhere that absorber are the one that usually required to change after X number of usage.

while spring are the one that hardly need to replaced, unless lowering the ride.

i'm not looking at the option of lowering nor higher the ride as i find it weird looking.

do correct me if i'm wrong.

in my situation, i only required to change the absorber or spring? (i don't wish to spend much, afterall, it's a B&B ride)

i don't wish to change to smaller/thinner tire.

please share your views, thank you in advance. ^_^

Your tire profile very weird, like too thin leh 195/45/15.

Won't the fender gap be very big?

From the way you describe, it is likely the shocks are gone.

The shocks are jamming up each time you ride over a hump.

Springs can last a whole life time without replacement, shocks are to be replace once found to be jam or leaking.

Think if yours is a B&B car, get the shocks from stockist and get workshop to replace will be cheaper.

There are ways to check for worn absorber, like the "bounce test" if there is no oil leak detected. Maybe your absorber mounting/stopper is damaged?

Even if you change the absorber, won't the tires still hit it afterwards?

No mention of usage mileage or regular routes condition. However, based on your description of abusing the shock absorbers with those wider tire, you may want to replace them to be back to normal

If shocks are due for change then better do it. It made one of my tyres wear unevenly and have to change the tyres too. Use your palm to feel the thread and see if there are bumps along the thread.

yeah, that's the only choice of tire if i were to opt for 195.

currently, the gap is only 3 finger from fender.

it doesn't hit the fender at all, so after you said, spring are doing fine.

shocks, is this call absorber too? i realized there's many names to it.

yes, i going to change soon. just wish to determine which and what to change.

i don't know.. hopefully after changing absorber, it stop the problem..

it was doing fine, until i ferry, go over hump, or uneven road..

then the tire will hit the absorber wall.

sorry, mileage is 76k, age 6.5 yrs old.

unlikely will change to normal tire, i like wider type [:p]

Car already 6.5 year old but your mileage under 100K?! Thought cars usually above 5 year old or more, mileage should be at least 100K.

Hi Kurty, jus to share my experience w my ride w somewhat similar issue. Given ur sharing, it sounds very much like ur shock absorber has jammed....thus leading to what u have experienced. I jus changed all 4 absorbers ytd cos I experienced vehicle ending very hard on front n rear everytime I go over a hump. I din encounter what u did though possibly cos gap between tyre n fender high big. Took down to workshop n they shared that 4 are gone (mine's a 5.5yr old car btw). Immediatley after changing, hell lot of diff (even my CO agrees). Suggest u bring down to a familiar/reliable workshop to hv it checked out. My humble opinion

You got to have the absorbers checked by unbolting one end and do the compression check.

shocks is one of the possible causes... not necessary the only cause.

known as scalloped tyres...

I change my bushings which has practically disintergrated and now observing the tyres
