China's netizen coded this prototype as J-31 (歼-31) from another company, Shenyang Aircraft Corporation.

Not sure if this is a mockup but with it on the tarmac, I guess its first flight will be soon and as predictable as its competitor J-20 did in Jan 2011.

Aviation buff compared it with F-35 instead of F-22, which looks more alike, as many believe this is a carrier-based jet based on the sturdier landing gears & twin nose wheels.

No arrestor hook is observed from the photos.

Tony Scot once mentioned that the MiG-28 model supplier was originally made in China by a toy maker in Guangzhou in 1985.

Paramount Pictures had to cancel the order after they found it too realistic for film making.

So they eventually settle for a few F-5 scale 1/20 bought from a nearby hobby-shop to blow up -

So in someway, the CCTV was paying homage to prop that did not make it on the silver screen. [;)]

J-31 this morning maiden flight comes only 19 months after Chengdu Aircraft Industry's J-20 first flight in Jan 2011.

With landing gears down for the entire 10 min sortie, the J-31 (bottom right) was escorted by J11 B chase plane.
