Hi,

I just bought an iphone 5 and will be cutting my iphone 4 SIM card to nano size.

My question is how do I transfer my contacts and SMSes across? Is it automatic with the SIM card? If not, what must I do? Thanks!

Don't think you can cut the SIM card to nano size. When I bought my iPhone 5, I paid another $30 for a new SIM card. You will need to go back to your telco to get a new nano SIM.

My contacts are synced over iCloud. Some sync over Google.

Do note that all the contacts you saved in your iPhone 4 are saved in the phone memory, not the SIM card.

SMS - There might be some apps to do it. I didn't try because contacts are more important to me.

Music, photos etc. all over iTunes.

There are service providers who cut the SIM card for you. $5 I think.

use itune.

sync and back up your iphone 4 to Itune.

then when you restore the back up on iphone 5.

Do your SMSes can transferred too? Or only just pictures, media etc.

sometime they dont backup itself.

so might have to right click on the devices on the left. and go to back up. then it will also back up while sync.

Backup works too but it will take much longer. I think there's a setting somewhere where you can select the items to sync. So contacts and stuff are not backing up during sync, that setting option is probably not selected.

yours is original micro sim? if yes, cut to nano no problem. $5 is overcharge btw, you can get your own cutter with that price.

step by step guide:

1. plug in iphone to open up itunes.

2. right click on your phone and select transfer purchases.

3. after step 2 done, right click on phone again and select back up.

4. after backing up old phone, plug in new phone. select restore from backup.

*note: if you want a complete clone of your old phone to new, sync applications using itunes. else start new phone fresh with apps you want to keep, just go app store and d/l will be much faster.

We have games on ipad and my iphone but my son select sync apps on her new iphone.

but good thing is, we can delete those unwanted apps and it would sync. only new games will be sync.
